i installed evolutionx off a cd-rw and now when i try to go back to the ms dashboard to change settings i get a code 21 error message and locked xbox.....looks like it has overwritten the xboxdash.xbe with a 1.3 version xbe when i think my xbox is a 1.4 (maybe 1.5). i'm running games, evox and xbmp fine at the moment on my 4:3 tv but i wanted to switch xboxs with an older 1.3 version i have as the dvd is more tolerant of the media used. problem is the other xbox is on a 16:9 tv so i need access to the ms dashboard to change the aspect ratio. i've searched loads of "places" but i can't seem to find anywhere to download the different versions of xboxdash.xbe. i can't even find a late version of slayer's installer which is supposed to have the dashboards for all xbox versions....any pointers will be much appreciated. :(

borrow an xbox from a friend to copy the files. please respect and follow the forum rules, no asking for xbox binaries (inc. original xbox os)

apologies...no offence meant! i really should learn to read the faq, especially as i'm always bitching about my customers never reading the faqs and manuals i so painstakingly write.

why do blokes never read manuals?

sorry once again! now i've just got to find someone with a 1.4/1.5 xbox.

i had this error 21 message also... is the problem that the ms xbox dashboard wont load up at all? .:. you cant change the resolution?

error 21 is associated with xb live (i think not too sure though) and there is a whole list of other error msg meanings over at xbox-scene.com

anyway i had this problem when i farted around and clicked 'xbox live' during a game (midnight club 2).... i dont know if this caused it but a friends brother said that installing xbox live can sometimes nack up the box, especially if it has a mod...

1) i ftp'ed to the xbox, clicked drive c
2) compared the contents of drive c with my backup of drive c
3) realised the folder "xboxdashdata...." wasnt present
this folder contains all the contents of the layout of the xbox dash
4) i ftped this folder back to the c drive
5) relaunched evox, clicked 'launch ms dash'
6) it worked

i.e.. check contents of original c drive is still there
... ftp original xbox dash file back up to c drive and attempt launch

thanks for the reply but i should confess to not having backed up my c: before installing a new version of evox.....stupid, i know, but there you have it. that's why i'm looking for a source of the correct files.
