I just did a softmod on my xbox v1.o. Everything went fine and I loaded XBMC as an app. Again, everything went fine. When I bring up XBMC everything seems to work except for the fact that In the player section I get only the option of 4X3 or auto. I am running a 16X9 TV.

I installed the dual boot and I have gone to M$dash and enabled Widescreen. I have since gone back and checked it and it is still set to Widescreen. I have ULeashed set to Widescreen. I am connected to the TV with analog composite connections. These are the ones that came standard with the xbox when it was new (red, white, yellow).

I know that things are not displaying correctly because when I go to the files screen I cannot see what is on the bottem of the screen. When I stream a DVD it has wide bars at the top and the bottom and looks stretched. When I play that same DVD on my Sony DVD player it fills the entire 16X9 screen.

I believe that the problem is with the fact that I do not get a 16X9 option from any of the menus within XBMC. Is it because I am using composite cables instead of component cables (HD)?

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks in advance for your help!

I forgot to mention that I have already turned off the softmod and gone into M$dash. Then I changed my settings to Widescreen through M$dash and then turned back on the softmod.

This had no effect on my problem.

I have searched the forums and found a couple of posts about the same problem, but I have not found any solutions. Most of the posts that I have found are concerned with 4X3 display.

Again, my problem is that the 16X9 options in XBMC do not appear. I can only choose 4X3 or Auto.

I would appreciate any help that you can give me.

Thanks!

You need the HD cables (component not composite). It won't work without those. Try GameStop. They have some generic cables for about $15 that work well.

Thanks J_K_M_A_N

I will pick up a set of the cables.

Just one question. Since my xbox was able to display widescreen through the composite cables before the softmod. Why does XBMC require the HD (component cables) to display 16X9?

Thanks again for your help!

Wait a mo.

Why does he need the HD cables?

Are you trying to connect to a HD TV?

You should be able to access the M$ dashboard from within the unleashX file manager.

Try it from there.

I am just trying to get XBMC to give me the option of 16X9. Currently I only get 4X3 or auto. I have already turned off my softmod and gone to M$dash and set it from Normal to Widescreen. This made no difference in XBMC. I still only get the option of 4X3 or auto. I never get 16X9.

I am using the cables that came with the xbox. They are the composite (white, red, yellow). It seems strange to me that the xbox will output 16X9 through these cables but XBMC won't. It is an HD TV but it should dispay 16X9 at 480I through the composite cables.

Other than try the component (HD) cable as suggested by "J_K_M_A_N", I have no idea what to do. I will try to pick up the cables tomorrow and will post the results.

I have seen several posts of the same nature on this forum, but I have never seen an answer that resolves the problem. I hope that the cables solve my problem.

Thanks!

Right. With the softmod turned ON. load up the MS dash. It should be in your C: parition.

Set that to whatever resolution you need. Widescreen I think. That should write to the eeprom. And you should be good to go.

Getting the HD cables isnt a bad idea if it is a HDTV.

Already done that. I still get 4X3 or auto. No 16X9.

Any suggestions?

Have you created a 'Shadow C' drive. If so, and it is enabled in nkpatcher which is what the softmod uses, XBMC will also use 'shadow C'. When you disable the softmod, you will then see 'real C' drive and when you change the settings, it would have no impact in XBMC. Browse to 'C' drive from within XBMC and execute the xbox dash xbe. You might find it's called 'xb0xdash.xbe' not 'xboxdash.xbe'. Change to the widescreen setting in this dash.

I have created a Shadow C. After I turned the softmod off, I booted to M$DASH and changed to widescreen. I then rebooted to UnleashX and turned the softmod back ON. I then when to settings in UnleashX and selected Widescreen. Is this the same as the procedure you are describing or is it different? I also setup a dual boot so I don't need to turn the softmod on and off anymore. I can boot to M$Dash or UnleashX. Both are set to Widescreen.

If this doesn't accomplish what you are describing I will be glad to try anything. I am running XBMC as an app rather than as a dash. Can you please give me a little direction on navagating to the file you are describing in XBMC?

I really appreciate everyones help.

Thanks!

Is your dual boot accessed by the open/close on the xbox, if so then if you boot with the tray opened the you are seeing 'real C' which won't affect XBMC. What you need to do is use the file manager in either unleashX(not the unleashX ndtooset) or XBMC, go into 'C' drive and execute xboxdash.xbe and change the setting in there. (Ignore my above post,i'm knackered, xb0xdash.xbe is in real c along with xboxdash.xbe which points to nkpatcher. Only xboxdash.xbe should be in shadow c, which is the xbe you need to execute.)

TXCOWBOY. When you created 'shadow c', did you copy your original 'C' files to the shadow partion. If you didn't, then shadow C will be empty and this would explain why you cannot change to 'widescreen' in XBMC. You can't just click 'create shadow c'. You have to put your original dash files onto the shadow partition otherwise it will always be empty and you will run into problem, mostly to do with settings.

When I created Shadow C, I did it automatically on the reboot from Krazie's Ndure 1.1.1. I didn't realize that I had to copy my original files into it. That wasn't in the tutorial.

I will try to go in through XBMC and run xboxdash.xbe and see if that solves the problem.

I have FTP access to the box. Can you point me in the right direction on moving my original files to Shadow C? Can I just go in and copy them from C: to the Shadow C. I think that it is located on E: Is that correct and is that the way to do it?

Thanks again!

You were correct and it now works fine. I just went in through XBMC and ran xboxdash.xbe. I can now choose 16X9 and everything seems to work perfectly. Thank you so much for all of your help.

Just one more thing. Could you or anyone else tell me how to move my orginal C: files into Shadow C: so I don't have any setup problems in the future.

Thanks in advance for your continued help!

No problem. Glad to help.
If the xboxdash file was already on 'C', then it looks like Krazies ndure has already copied the original dash files to Shadow C. I haven't personally used Krazie's as I have a Xecuter3 chip with a retail bios flashed to it and I'm using Kingroachs ndure and a customised xman's nkpatcher. I'm pretty sure Krazie's backs up the original 'C' files and puts them on 'E'. Like I said, if you found the files already on 'C' from XBMC, then you shouldn't need to do anything else. You should even be able to get to the shadow msdash(which is the one XBMC will use) by clicking the right analog on the XBMC home screen and selecting 'dashboard'.
Hope this helps.

Sorry. I am so used to hearing 16x9 and assuming HD. I forget you can have widescreen without HD. Glad to hear you got it working.

I now understand how to get to the dash from the main menu of XBMC. It worked just as you described it.

Thanks again for all of your help!
