VOB problems

So I got sick of trying to convert some VOB files to AVI and compress them to put on my xbox so I just stuck the VOB files on it. When I play them there are some issues with fast forwarding and rewinding, mainly that it will stutter and if you go any faster than 16x the video playback will stop and go back to the menu. Are there known problems with VOB playback? I guess I am not terribly concerned that there is a way to fix this, just curious.

why not put the full dvd instead of the vobs on the xbox? (include all .ifo files), then just play video_ts.ifo.
