It is not dead, I have had an extreme change in lifestyle recently with having basically a wife and 2 kids thrown into my life and us living in seperate houses it has become very difficult to manage them, a full time job, and my almost non-existent social life. I do skin work whenever I am home, although it has not been on this skin since I started my latest endeavor. So to sum it up, I would not consider this skin dead. Just sleeping for the moment.

Oh, I added the new busy dialog images to the svn and updated the download link in my sig with credit given to Wangle.

- When I use the view mode with the picture of the video in the left, and when I wait a few seconds I see the movie info and stuff. But there isn't enough room for it, and it doesn't scroll. The other stuff just cross over the text.

I would work on these but I am at the my girlfriends house and I have no way of working on skins here as there is no way of me networking my xbox to her computer and I can't even run XBMC PC on her computer cause it is such a piece of crap. I paln on hitting the xml's when I get home. I am going through some serious skin work withdrawl.

Why should Jezz_X do it? Well because he was the one that has worked a bit on the skin (cleaning up the code etc)since CHi3f's absence and I presumed that he may have an interest.

I'd say jmarshalls reaction was fair. this is an open source application. The skin is opensourced and noone should poke devs into doing what you want, if a dev want it. they do it, otherwise the code is freely available for someone who wants it in (That's the entire point of GPL and it works..).

Devs have spent ALOT of time making this, and sharing their fruits of labor.. Be kind, make suggestions and wait for stuff too happen, or do it yourself. But walsing in telling a dev what to do is a bit rude.

Conditional visability might help with the background bit.

The skinning engine reads both from textures.xpr and anything laying in the media folder, so you can have ie foo.png and call that without changing anything in textures.xpr.

Thanks Jezz. I am using rapidsvn and I just assumed that when I added and committed the folder the files inside would go with it.

First off, thanks for this skin. I think it's the cleanest avaiable. Two question tho:
1. Can I edit movie description length anyware, or it's box height? It always seem to go over the line under it.

2. The Position indicator when playing a movie is extremely blurry for some reason. Can I fix this?

I've tried a few of the solution found in the thread as well as updating xTV (from Chief's sig) and XBMC from the latest svn.

Any thoughts on what is wrong? Should I re-install XBMC rather than upgrade via script (perhaps "bad" settings are retained that way)?

By the way, do you have a reason why you had that weird function to get to the settings of view? You need to go to the most left item of the screen and then press left again, same for the right side. It's a bit different from all the other skins. Maybe you can reconsider it? Or make another function to go to the list view-settings?

I also have info spilling outside of the designated area on the left in list mode when viewing my video library as mentioned earlier in the thread. I can not take a screenshot of it because whenever I try the screen changes to not showing data and only showing the thumbnail. And one last thing I noticed is that even though I tell the skin to not tilt items in the list it still does.

PM3 and other skin does show the OSD correctly, and this problem occured after an upgrade (XBMC & XTV togheter).

I just did a SVN update to 1362 and can confirm the video OSD is working. I can also confrim that the overview info in list view is now properly aligned. How does one scroll the long overviews that contain more info than what is shown? Pressing left to try to focus that area brings up the pop-up menu.

I still have the visual issue posted above. It appears when pressing info on a tv show in library list view. Also list view is still tilting the icon when in the general settings of the skin tilt list view is off.

You can change it. Look in the open the Defaults.xml found in the "colors" folder of the skin. You just have to change the color's hex values to your liking.

If by "black or white screen" you mean the black or white buttons, I can't do that with the skin. That is something decided by your keymap.xml, also the list options "screen" is not really a seperate screen but some hidden buttons and images that are only visible when the list is not focused. While making this skin Manturafs and I were trying to think of a way to make these options visible all the time but not ruin the "Apple TV" look. This was the best thing we could come up with, I think anything else would have ruined the clean feel of it.

With rev 1368, I cannot see which item is highlighted. Everything else seems to work correctly. I can scroll and select an item but I just don't know which item is currently selected. I'm using xbmc for osx 0.4.5.

Pulling my hair out here. I can't get XBMC to recognize the xtv skin. It is greyed out and a message appears near the bottom that I need to use skins 2.0.0 and higher. I have installed a fresh build of XBMC 2.0.1 (at least that's what changelog says). I have installed a completely fresh XBMC and have downloaded xtv skin twice following the link from Chief's sig.

My XBMC log gives a warning. Not sure it's related though:

Wow. This skin is amazing! Finally got it working now that I'm using the most up-to-date XBMC builds. I only have one complaint. The text of the OSD when watching videos or movies is overlapping. Now, I know what you're going to say, use a higher resolution... At 720p the text looks fine, but the video quality from the XBOX at 720p sucks. I've done a lot of video tests and the scaler and de-interlacer in my plasma TV is FAR suppior to the the one in the XBOX. So I absolutely have to run the video playback in NTSC format. Is there a font file I can change or replace somewhere that only affects the OSD?

My wife really likes this skin so I looked into why the OSD menu and status bar are huge in 16x9 720, I think its because while the video is playing on a real xbox it behaves differently then it does in the win32 tester, in the tester it looks fine with its fake video, but on a real xbox, it seems like xbmc uses the pal16x9 xmls, and the 720p font.xml, that combination yields huge fonts.
it's like the xbox reverts to non 720p while playing a video so the big ass fonts in the 720p font.xml are displayed in a non 720p 16x9 screen. If I replace the 720p fon.xml with the one from pal16x9 the osd looks great, but the rest of the skin has tiny ones then. Short of creating a special VideoOSD.xml in the 720p folder, I can't see an easy way of fixing it. Since a picture is worth a thousand word, here it is.

Its because your not actually playing it in 720p you have your video playback set to somthing else like Best available or Auto or somthign that is actually switching the screen resolution back to NTSC16x9 instead of 720p and the system still has 720p size fonts loaded
Go Into settings\video\player and change the resolution to the same as the gui

My GUI is set to 720p but I don't want to scale my movies up to 720p the XBOX butchers the video quality. The scaler in my TV gives a far better picture. There should be a smaller font for 480i or 480p, not the same font that's used for 720p.

There is but xbmc does not work that way it uses the allready loaded font and that is the issue with all skins not just xtv.

You need to go make your case and plea for reloading font scales while the resolution changes each time in the feature requests section

At least your TV shows are working. For some reason when I choose TV Shows from the main menu, I get this a darkened screen with the word Movies in the top right corner and a pop-up box in the middle that has the following list:

View: Icons
Sort by: Name
Library mode

Search
IMDb

The only way out of this is to select the clear button on the controller. Then another window pops up with more options to update library, go to root, now playing and settings. If I choose anything, I end up in the Movies library. My sources.xml is correct for my video library. Any thought on how to fix this?

What's wierd is my test DVD (Silicon Optix) fails almost every test if the player is set to 720p but when watching real movie content, I see no such problems. I'm just going to use 720p for playback and forget all about these "test" DVD's.

The skin has nothing to do with XBMC/the scrapers fetching thumbs.

Having a small cosmetic issue on the latest SVN.

Basically when media overlays are turned on the skin shows XBMC SVN in the bottom left hand corner... so whenever and movies or music are playing it seems to overlap.

In PM3 and other skins there's a trailer button in the movie information screen. So when you have a movie in your library and a trailer is available it allows you to watch that trailer.

I made a quick fix to have this button in xTV too. I had to resize the other buttons a bit otherwise it wouldn't fit.

Paste all of the code in the file "DialogVideoInfo.xml" in the PAL directory of xTV. (overwrite everything, so completely replace the code).

Allright, I added some basic fanart support. No dedicated fanart viewtype, but fanart appears in the already existing viewtypes like it does in PM3 for instance.

I added a button to enable or disable fanart. You can find it in the background section of the skin settings screen. I also added a button that can dim the fanart a bit if text becomes a bit hard to read, for instance if you have a lot of bright fanart images.

I also corrected a bug in this screen. The "visuals behind background" button actually enabled when disabling and vice versa.

There's 3 files to edit.

- First copy the code below and paste it into the file "includes.xml" in the PAL directory

Hi there, I usually only use xTV as my theme, but decided to play around with some others. After switching briefly to Aeon, I switched back to xTV, but suddenly all theme images were gone, plus the highlights for the menus stopped working.

Even after restarting the xbox, it's still showing just the text, but it's impossible to navigate as menu items don't show focus.

Please help!

I just tried to look into this on the xbox. However using the get fanart button just shows the busy animation and nothing ever happens. But I tested it with my own and other skins and it doesn't work in those either. It definitely worked flawlessly in my own skin so I'm thinking either fanart broke in the latest t3ch or thetvdb is having problems. The latter seems most likely as their site times out a lot for me at the moment.

There really isn't such thing as "building" a skin though is there? The build scripts just copy the individual folders into another folder in the XBMC skins folder correct? I never had to do a "build" for Vinci or AEON. I'm pretty new to XBMC so let me know if I'm wrong.

No, it does not contain the Fan Art. I guess it will be added at some point by the creators of xTV. I don't want to get in their way, I just posted a quick fix people can try out in the meantime. It was not an official update to the xTV skin, maybe I should have made that more clear.

Fanart allows you to display images of your tv shows as a background picture. Said images are automatically downloaded fromt thetvdb.com. If you have a recent xbmc build the default skin has support added for it as well.

On line 13 the spincontrol is set to be at 400

On my xbox when the plot is over one page it covers up the spincontrol

Also on the Cast/Plot button "UP" is coded to "50" which is the listcontrol ID for Cast. The spincontrol ID for Plot is "4" See line 257 for the Cast/Plot Up button. The Cast/Plot up doesn't go to the Plot spincontrol. I changed the UP to "4" is this the correct way to do this. See below

No, that is a quick way to not get something added.

I do realize that I have not been keeping up with the skin like I used to but there is a life past this one (a.k.a. the real world) and mine has had alot of changes lately and i have almost no free time to do skin work. Trust me I do not like the fact that I have no time to do either of the only 2 hobbies I enjoy in life or the fact that I have only made one commit to the project since I was made part of the team, but my real life stuff has to come first and i would like to be able to make such decisions without hearing people smart ass comments about it. If I could do more i would and I am sure at some point this craziness of me having a full time family to take care of will die down and I will have time again so just be patient.

I also don't think it is fair to Jezz to ask/suggest that he should be the one to pick up the slack on a project that I have started. He has alot to do himself and he should not have to worry about people asking him to work on other people's skins when he not only has multiple other skins to work on but has to keep up with the skin needs of PM3 for the various ports for XBMC. Anyone who does must have no idea what it is like being the only coder on a skin and until you do I don't think it is fair to expect it of him.

My point is that I WILL return to doing constant skin work and I WILL finally be a productive part of the team, but right now I can't. Excuse me if I seem rude but it angers me when I see comments like that when the people who make these comments have no idea how much it bothers me that I can't do this stuff on a regular basis anymore. Not only that but I am sure I have made the people I respect think less of me by my lack of work. I feel like I have made a promise I am not able to keep, not only to the users of my skins, but the XBMC team and Mike Beecham(he and a few select others know why).

LOTS!!!) all the pc's are all running MCE'05... (like many, I am not a fan of vista) but I digress.

I was looking online for a screenshot of Linux Media Centre? I was growing weary of MCE... I STUMBLED onto XBMC... and it didn't take long before I was reading the wiki... and voila xtv... I KNOW about appleTV but I hate itunes even more than vista!!! although BEAUTIFUL like all things apple using the sync with itunes... BLECH, then I find xtv, and xbmc...

I ran out FRIDAY, bought an XBOX with a remote and the high end monster cable and ran across town to get some shady kid to soft-mod it for me... he did great (*I think)... I coulda figured it all out in a few days but $15 and 30 minutes and I was home... and no I don't think I'll ever play a game on it... hahaha...

It took a while to configure but that is GOOD! SO MANY OPTIONS... I love it.
and it connects to shares... my 'special' daughter figured it out in 10 minutes... and in a couple weeks I am replacing other HTPC's in the house with Xbox's!!!

It is just the home window right now. We will get around to doing the rest. I can't do the lists like you see in the apple tv tour video cause I can't just have multiple media lists in one window like that but I can do some adjustments to the rest of the skin.

yep... just delete it. I don't know about xTV but in PMIII the start up sound is in xbmcRoot\skin\Project Mayhem III\sounds and is called start.wav. I'm sure xTV has a similar structure.

Well, I've got an Xeceuter 3 CE and I turned that off before I started on this project. Are you sure there isn't a TSOP flash that does that?

Is anyone else having issues with XTV skin in Linux?
Older versions of XTV work properly but latest SVN 1549 does not 'highlight' selection when scrolling, and does not show any XTV icons, just text.
XBMC Linux is latest SVN build.

sorry - never mind, I was using Remote Desktop to build the XTV skin, so there was a D3D error during the build that I did not catch.
Build on local pc, and media folder creates properly.

XBMC now has integrated support for mythtv allowing the watching of live tv and recordings. This is a great feature but at the moment it doesnt work as well with xTV as with PM111.

As can be seen from the screenshots below xTV misses the program information from the Live Channels screen. Would it be possible to modify xTV to be compatible with Live Channels and show the program information? If this is fairly straightforward and someone can point me in the right direction I will have a crack at it but if complex skinning then may well be beyond me.
I think the screenshots show how great this feature could look in xTV. Perhaps the program for the selected channel could be shown below the channel icon or alternatively the channel icon made smaller to allow the programs to be shown next to each channel as in PM111? Thanks

Have done some work to make xTV work better with the integrated mythtv support. Have added a view to videos called mythtv which allows you to see both channels and shows as well as displaying the program information for the selected program at the bottom of the screen. (program information doesn't show in the attached screenshot but scrolls at bottom of screen as per the RSS feed on home page)

The view is not quite perfect, when scrolling downwards, as the icons rotate, they temporarily cover a small area on the channel text. I've messed around for ages with my trail and error skinning skills and haven't managed to fix this but non of the family complain and it at least makes mythtv much more functional than with the standard views.
I also modified the "TV Shows" button on the home page to be "TV" and to point at the mythtv video share.
If anyone is interested I will find somewhere to post the modified files. Was wondering, since this is a fairly simple addition to the skin rather than a modification, if the mythtv view might be added to the svn (after perfecting the icon rotation of course). If the mythtv view was added and there was a skin option to add a "TV" button as above to the home menu in the same way as the current "TV Shows" option then xTV would be a great skin for mythtv use.
I wont have time to mess with this anymore for a few months so thought I would share what had done to date.

Using the latest XBMC Windows SVN and xTV there is a persistent red dot, which I think signifies the unwatched state, on the "Big Wide View" icons for TV shows.

It remains even when I turn off "use watched state overlays".

Any idea why this would be happening?

At least your TV shows are working. For some reason when I choose TV Shows from the main menu, I get this a darkened screen with the word Movies in the top right corner and a pop-up box in the middle that has the following list:

View: Icons
Sort by: Name
Library mode

Search
IMDb

The only way out of this is to select the clear button on the controller. Then another window pops up with more options to update library, go to root, now playing and settings. If I choose anything, I end up in the Movies library. My sources.xml is correct for my video library. Any thought on how to fix this?

I want the Howard TV episodes to go into the TV Shows folder. But I have the exact same problem as this quote... What am I missing? Do I need to alter a file within the skin? Or can I fix this another way?

A cheap way to do it is to open the Home.xml in the PAL folder, press ctrl+g and go to line 92, change the line to <onclick>ActivateWindow(MyVideoFiles,your source name)</onclick> ("your source name" being the name of the source your tv shows are in), save the file and reload the skin or enter a different window and go back to the home window for the changes to take effect.

To me it sounds as if you and the other poster do not have your tvshows added to your library. I have seen this quite often when I am rebuilding my library for testing various things. The way I fix it is to clean the library, then re-add the sources I want in my library and run the proper scrapers on those sources.

How come movie posters always look squashed vertically in this skin? In Coverflow view all my movie posters look "wider" than they should be and from that new screenshot up there it looks to be continuing in that tradition. I'm not complaining cause I still love the skin, just inquiring.

The same problem seems to exists in chi3f's new screenshot. Dimensions/ ratio should be 1000x1500, what is being used?

An idea, btw, what about making nice backgrounds for the homescreen á la Apple TV?
It could work similar to AEON with different backgrounds for different sections, but with some nice looking covers instead.

You don't. The button for it is in the shutdown menu.

I think it is gonna be 2 separate releases. I am still very attached to the old style. In my opinion the old style is fashion and the new is function.

Nice, XTV is my number 1 skin. Coverflow does it for me every time (especially as I have a 21" 4:3 CRT), can't understand why over skins don't have it as an option (I presume is was difficult to perfect?). Always try out the new skins but the clean interface and coverflow draw me back every time.

I've a few glitches and questions, but haven't found a manual or faq, than i ask you here :
- how do you remove the xTv startup logo ? (i got the intro video set up)
- how do u change views when browsing media ? (using the xbox remote)
- where's the library gone ? how do u manage it ?

And last, I upgraded to a recent and clean version of XMBC (16/6/8) but I don't have a sources.xml file anymore ; where does xTV store sources infos ?

1 - Sorry, not sure.
2 - While browsing a media list, press left/right (up/down in some view types) and the settings panel will slide in from the side of the screen.
3 - Library is there, in the skin settings page there is an option to link the movies option to library and also an option to have a TV-Show button, update the same way as with other skins.
4 - Use the GUI to add your sources (XBMC) will auto generate a sources.xml.

I am really stumped. I downloaded and unrared the lastest svn of xbmc/ deleted the xbmc directory on my e:\apps directory. FTP the new xbmc to the apps directory. Downloaded the latest XTV from chief's signature block and copied it to the apps\xbmc\skin directory

I am really stumped. I downloaded and unrared the lastest svn of xbmc/ deleted the xbmc directory on my e:\apps directory. FTP the new xbmc to the apps directory. Downloaded the latest XTV from chief's signature block and copied it to the apps\xbmc\skin directory

I still dont have the fonts on the front screen. Here is my log. Please help me anyone

Go to System > Information > File Manager.
Go to the C Drive
then launch the original dashboard, not the xboxdash.xbe
Once it boots, FTP should be enabled, if not, enable it on that dashboard you booted it.
FTP your data in.
Again, this is the easiest way to put XBMC and xTV in together.
If you simply want to load xTV, then just change your skin to PGIII, FTP xTV in to the skins folder. Once it completes, change the skin back to xTV

Just wanted to say thanks for this skin, i stumbled upon xbmc (plex actually) when I was trying to find something to play 1080p stuff on my hackintosh HTPC. I had played around with other media center apps before but basically gave up, they were either too flaky or too complicated or too ugly, but this is great!

I have a couple noob type questions, apologies if these have been covered before, I did read the entire thread before I posted this and didn't see anything.

Is there a version of xTV with hi res icons being worked on? I saw mentions of a new version but wasn't sure if updated HD icons were part of that. I did manage to figure out how to replace the generic drive icon with a 512 x512 pixel version (took me awhile to figure out that I had to compile the build on a windows machine, but I got that sorted and it looks pretty good) the thing is I don't want to spend a bunch of time replacing graphics if a new super great version is right around the corner - any hints? weeks? months?

Oh and in the main page there is kid of a "glow" or light coming from the top right corner - is this part of a png image or can one turn this off in a menu somewhere? I prefer an all black background.

Anyhow it works great so far and looks fantastic. You guys have all done an amazing job.

I've tinkered with skins before but only simple stuff like adding a clock, moving movie posters and adding shutdown option to home page, nothing major and I have no real clue about this. ???
Believe problem seemed to have popped around nightly build 18677 and 18972.
Anyone with any ideas, suggestion it would be greatly appreciated as I use it as my main skin and would hate to have to change. Loves its simplicity, clarity, crispness... and it's pretty. :laugh:

Hey fellas, I'm having similar issues as well, but I was wondering if you are all using the latest build of XBMC (4/4/09)? I had an older build of xTV that I tested out today, and I know was working on another box, but older build is having the same problem as the new one, so I'm wondering if maybe it's a change in XBMC itself that is not compatible with xTV, because my other skins are working... I just don't want to use another one :)

I don't know if I am doing something wrong but when I try this skin in the latest 9.04 beta of xbmc for the mac I dont get any images just the text. Everything else is black. It makes it very hard to navigate because I dont even get the highlight image to know which menu item I am on. Does any one know what I am doing wrong? BTW my screen is 16:9 720p.

EDIT ok I just copied the contents from the /media/default folder into the /media folder and that took care of it. But I have a feeling that is not the right way to do it.

Now if I could only figure out how to get the scripts menu in the home screen? This would be essential.

I too have the issue with browsing sources.

I'm using this skin with my xbox at 1080i. When looking at my video cover art in the WRAP view, the covers look blurry, despite having high resolution images. Is this skin not really designed for HD and this be the cause? Could it be that my cover art is being reduced by the skin and then expanded by xbmc? Or would it have something to do with the skin not respecting the image's aspect ratio and be an artifact of stretching the image?

Your mockup is what I was going for but I could not find it again for the life of me so I just whipped that up instead. I would love to see a new mockup. remember that it has to look good without the navigation buttons as well cause you can get the progress bar to show without the osd buttons appearing which is why I made mine the way it is.

Thank you. The icons were designed by Volante so he deserves an equal amount of credit. I honestly would have made it exactly like his but I could not find his mockup on the day I was working on it so I just threw that one together. It would have been different if I had any kind of skill in photoshop.
