Ok here's the deal. I'm not new to Modded Xbox, but I am new to the XBMC. I have been gaming all the time and haven't got around to the media stuff until now :( Let me tell you what problems I was having, now I have bigger problems: First I have a Xenium Ice Mod chip running Evox 8plus and EvolutionX V3921 Dashboard. Not sure what version of XBMC I had originally other than I can tell you that it has a "Albums" folder in it and it has been around since 2005 at the least. It was running fine. I could connect to my desktop via SMB and it would detect my "Workgroup" as well as my laptop. Both PC's running WindowsXP Pro. XBMC would access my shares on my Desktop with no problem, but it would not detect my shares on my laptop but it at least saw the name of my laptop in the "workgroup" list. I researched all day and to no resolve on fixing it so that my shares on my laptop would show in XBMC. I even had a version of Win98 running on VMWare on my laptop (don't ask why) and XBMC detected those shares with no problem. Hmmm. XP Pro permission thing? Windows Firewall? Don't think so, tried everything. Ok, here's where things get ugly. I downloaded a newer version of XBMC (BLING BLING) and backedup the old version (of course). Nope... the new XBMC will not even load. It doesn't lock up or freeze, doesn't give me any messages, just cranks around on the hard drive for a few seconds then brings me back to my dashboard menu. I downloaded another version... this time (XBMC FAT FINAL) and same result. I finally got pissed off and restored my older version which now has the exact same result. DOES NOTHING!!! After reading more forums and stuff, I have even tried all of the following:Holding down the various buttons like white + Y and or Back and Start when loading. I have cleared the CACHE dir on E:, Deleted the face0008 or whatever that folder is on both UDATA and TDATA, tried loading the default.xbe shortcut and renaming my evox one... everything!!! So now no XBMC will work. What gives? Please help! Oh yeah... one more thing. I checked the system date and time and also used the dexbe.exe utility to make my new version "retail" instead of "debug". Somebody help me please... this is bugging the crap out of me.

XBMC never does just nothing, unless it has no xbe present at all. The first thing it does is logs information to xbmc.log - take a look and it probably will give you a hint as to what is going wrong. The most likely reason is incorrect installation - if you used the Xenium FTP to transfer it, for instance, you may well have some corrupt files (Xenium FTP server is unreliable).

Take a look at the log.

Cheers,
Jonathan

Thanks for the replay Jonathan. I used Xenium's SMB to copy the files. And the only xbmc logs that I can find have data posted in them from like 2002... which makes no since at all.

The main reason I was using Xenium's SMB to copy is because when I use FlashFXP it is about as slow as using a 2400 Baud modem

Try booting from some kind of xbox bootable media (slayers autoinstaller or what it was called for instance), and when you are at the dashboard connect with flashfxp again, and then setup the files.

Thanks for all your help. FTP using FlashFXP did the trick. For some reason, using FlashFXP from my desktop is much, much faster than running it from my desktop. Go figure. But, hey! I got it fixed. Thanks!
