i made some skin mockups...maybe some coders want to take a shot at it.

We really need a glossy skin like this one .. Although the grass background could be removed or changed by the user :grin:
Looks really amazing.. If you could provide the graphics, perhaps someone could code it in .xmls ..

Do you have the png files? I'll give it a try.
I just want to add yes its nice but you really need to make sure that none of the images are taken directly from vista itself or Microsoft will come down hard on you
Other than that its nice and if you need tech support (ie I have no time to code it but are willing to help you figure out stuff ) just come see me int he official irc channel or send me a PM
Looking at it it also seems to have a lot of wasted space around the edges i would suggest making that grey border alot smaller since the grass part also has a border in it

they grey border won't be that wide on the skin... and the border in the gras part will probably be smaller as well... we'll take a look at it as soon as we start coding it...
i just need to get some great royalte free background images that are in the vista style... the icons are remakes, not straight rips from the vista os :nod:

Alright, time for an update.
First off the skin now has a name. It's called Slate.
This skin is being brought to you by Team af.

This skin has only been in the works for about 2 1/2 weeks. In this time we have made a lot of progress. We still have a long way to go before it could be considered a complete skin. Is that even possible a complete skin?
There are a few things that we have tried to do with this skin. We have tried to use as much of the available screen as possible for content. We have also added a lot of skin settings. Right now we have 18 skin settings. And this doesn't include the bookmarks.
I guess you want to see some screenshots. Well here you go!

This is just a taste of what is to come with this skin. We have added some different view types that I think some of you will find useful.
We are looking to have a beta ready in about a week. Please don't hold us to an exact date. Because this is just a hobby to us and we might have more pressing real life matters that could slow down progress.
fluidman should be along at any time with another update.

If you did all the icons in settings, that is very impressive. Is the My Videos selected, is that why it's blue?

If you mean the My Videos section in the bookmarks then yes it is selected. It is actually grey.

No I meant the SS of settings, where My Videos folder looks blue.
Sorry. Yes that is the case. The settings icons change to that blue when they are focused.

Well, Abe wanted me to post an update, so here it is:
We also decided to make a matching skin for the web interface.
To make a long story short and have pictures say a thousand words, here are the screenshots:

We are also working on a team website at the moment. It should be ready and running when we are releasing the public beta of Slate (hopefully next week). So stay tuned for updates here at the forums ...

i hate those animated gif displays. It's hard to really see anything.
Great job so far. Overall this skin looks very promising :grin:
I am pretty worried about how well the black menu font will look on a crt. The button texture looks too dark for there to be a good contrast...

Asteron, if I understand your concern correctly, there won't be a problem. Check out the 1st screenshot. Notice that the focused button's text is white. This happens on all buttons that have the black text.
Thanks for your comments so far. We are hoping to have a beta ready sometime next week. It should be interesting to here your thoughts after you have been able to use this skin.

yeah I personally am not a huge fan of the background...It's Ok, but i think it would look a lot better if it weren't quite so sharp. A little more subdued, maybe having almost a foggy or misty feel to it would look nice i think.
The background in the screenshots will be the default background. Changing the background would be a lot of work and right now we are more focused on trying to get the beta ready.
After, working on this skin for about 3 weeks we agreed we needed a darker background. This is one of fluidmans personal designs. I personally like it. But then again it's my skin.
There is a skin setting that allows you to use your own background. So, everyone that doesn't like it won't have to use it. I'm sure that people will find some great backgrounds.

First of all, i love the skin!
Regarding the backgrounds, i actually really like the original two backgrounds posted in the beginning of the thread. I hope you include those in the skin once it is released.

Gotta bump this thread. What is the status of this gents? This is really looking good. Not to knock PM, but with all of the cheesy skins out there for Evox and such, it will be nice to have some good skins to choose from for XBMC.

well done lads, the screen shoots look deadly.
im using xtv at the moment which will be hard to top imo..
but i'll give this a try when it comes out, cause it looks so promising!!
