Streams stutter constantly

I have tried streaming movies from my windows xp machine to xbmc 2.0.1 and they just stutter constantly. The same movies play fine if I copy them to the xbox and play them from the hard drive.

It is a ver 1.0 xbox with a softmod running xbmc 2.0.1 as the dash.

The first movie in the log was played using "play with dvdplayer", the second was simply played with mplayer.

I have tried changing the cache size to 0, 2mb, 4mb, 8mb etc to no avail.

My box is set to 16:9.

your connection is just not good enough.. and dvdplayer has never used the filecache so changing that will not do anything.

What is the connection between PC and Xbox? Wired or Wireless?

If Wireless, well.... as a rule, and I know people are gonna come out and say I am talking rubbish, I would not used Wireless to stream video and vertainly not DVD video. I have tried it in many sistuations both at home and in work and always found that wired provides the better solution.

If wired, have you checked your cabling? Kinks, bad connections, errors on your network can cause dramatic slowdowns.

hurrah!!

after spending 2 hours last night completely stripping my network down, I found the problem - a faulty netgear hub!! :shocked:

after the offending hub was removed the streaming worked perfectly.

many thanks for everyones help and massive thanks to the developers for a fantastic program.
