I prefer to keep my DVD TV Series disks fully intact, with extra features & menus. But I'd also like to be able to select a TV episode by name instead of having to remember which season and disk.
One nice feature I'd love to see is the ability for M3U or PLS playlists to be able to specify a TITLE or Chapter (or time offset?) to play instead of just a file reference when pointing to a DVD image. So that way I can have a folder full of playlists named by episode - pointing into a DVD image. And the full DVD image can be hidden deeper in the folder hierarchy
M3U looks like it allows for custom extensions, dunno about PLS format.
