I think your MKV is a x264 or H264 video file. Some of those files aren't playable with XBMC (high bitrates).
I got the same problem and it's unlucky that XBMC doesn't decode the best video codec for now.

I've understood that it's because video files which are encode with x264/h264 High Bitrate need too many power that XBOX can't provide....

Hello!

I am expperiencing some similar problems as takitjai with mkv files. They freeze, go in slow motion and on the attempt of rewinding or fast-forwarding the playback is stoped. However in my case I suppose it is not the matter of the content but the container itself.

I am trying to watch video files of this specification:
Video: x264
Audio: AAC
Frame Rate: 29.97 fps
Resolution: 512x384
Aspect Ratio: 4:3

Although it is a widely discussed x264 kind of file, the resolution is not high and according to this table:
http://xboxmediacenter.com/wiki/index.php?title=XBMC_Features_and_Supported_Format s/Codecs#Supported_video_formats_and_resolutions
it should play fine.

I wouldn't bring this out at all if I didn't check - the SAME content put in mp4 container does not freeze and allows to be rewinded or fast-forwarded, in other words plays fine.

I use XBMC from 10.10.2006 (that's halfway beetween 2.0 an 2.0.1). Was the mkv support modified in some way since 10.10.2006? Would upgrading do any help in this matter?

I would appreciate any help and guidance.

I too have the same problem with MKV, though it is .x264 encoding which ppl say doesnt work with XBMC too well. ... hope it gets fixed one day , MKV is probably the best format out there for HD

The latest Feb 14 version seems a lot stable and usable.
