When watching a dvd (well divx movies) and sometimes on a game my xbox just beeps really loud and does it quite a few times sometimes wont freeze right away but then sometims it does. Any idea what the beeping indicates?

DD = Dolby Digital (ie. SP/DIF optical out). What kind of hardware do you have (Xbox cable, reciever/amplifier, speakers, etc.) and how is MS-dash/XBMC audio-settings configured?

Do the sound come from the Xbox itself, or your do they come from your external speakers or your TV's internal speakers?

PS! The Xbox doesn't have a built-in speaker so if it's comming from the Xbox itself then either your harddrive, DVD-ROM drive or Fan/Fans are about to break (as they are the only moving parts inside the Xbox, they are the only things that could have the Xbox itself give out a sound/noise).

I had a hard drive a year ago that started to beep-click-beep every now and again. After a few months of that is started to freeze, then the Drive started to corrupt. (It was an IBM deskstar 120GB).

I now have a WD which mews like a cat every now and again, but that is normal as I've had 4 and they all do it every now and again - even in the PC.

Just my experience.

Time to get a new or used DVD drive.

Read up on the various drive models used in the original Xbox and their limitations on media they will accept.

Ebay is a source for used and new original drives.

If you have a Samsung drive, you might be able to tweak the DVD-pot and make it work again. I have had success on one of these. You need to be pretty experienced doing that sort of stuff, though. Else you _will_ break the drive beyond repair.
