Hi,

I've recently been playing retail dvds through my xbmc and I've noticed that the two I have tried both have play back issues.

(Both belong to the gf so no ribbing please  )

Mrs Henderson Presents, random freezing have to skip that part of movie
Fun with Dick and Jane - crashes xbox at same point (tested several times), also if fast forwarding or rewinding I can't then play the movie again, it seems to stick at 2x or 0.5 times.

Is there an easy way to fix this or is it a problem with xbmc dvd player? If it is a problem not easily fixable is there a seperate program I could run to play dvds better? I don't particularly want to have to get a seperate dvd player :(

Thanks

are you absolutely sure your particular DVD drive can read those discs successfully without error? that they are not scratched in any way? because this is most probably the issue.

Both DVD are playable is a standalone dvd player, through PowerDVD on my PC and have been watched on the xbox before I did the mod.

If my xbmc was set to NTSC (I'm in Uk so should be PAL) could this cause the problems?

How would I go about changing that setting?

Also is it possible to use the M$ dash dvd playback software at all?

It shouldnt matter what standard you are set to.
How old is your version on XBMC? And does the disc play ok when you launch the original xbox dash.?

I haven't tried launching the original xbox dash.

When I do shutdown -> Dash it just reloads xbmc dashboard...any ideas

try going to the c: drive via filemanager and run xboxdash.xbe from there.

But importantly how old is your version of XBMC?

I'll get the latest one and try that.

Do I just overwrite what's on drive e:?

Blackstar, I think I know what's happening here because it happened to me:-) I debugged the problem with Jonathan and he fixed it.
Try using the dvdlayerchangehack.dll.
Go to system/players/dvdplayer, delete libdvdcss-2.dll and change the name of libdvdcss-2layerchangehack.dll to libdvdcss-2.dll (you're just replacing one dll with another).
My guess is it'll work fine after you do that.

I suggest taking a read of this section of the very good online manual.
Take a look at the installing section. There have been a few changes since Jan
