I upgraded to an HDTV so I bought the Microsoft Hi-Def pack and set XBMC to use 720p mode. All my recorded TV shows, which have just been captured in standard definition, are now making all these little lines whenever there is motion:

That only happens with the raw mpg files I record with my Mythbox. DVD's of movies and TV shows I've converted to avi files still look great. No problems at all with them.

Is there anything I can do in XBMC to fix all my recorded shows or is it just something to do with the way mythtv captures them?

they are interlaced. you can try playing with xbmc's deinterlacer options.

Thanks. I finally found that "sync even, sync odd, deinterlace" option in the player controls. Selecting Deinterlace does seem to alleviate the problem somewhat. Movement kind of jars more though... hard to explain. :) I guess I really need to look into why Myth is recording everything interlaced.

myth does so since it's broadcasted so. if you get a new xbmc, the sync modes have been renamed to Weave ( you can't use them thou since you are on a progressive display) but there has been two new modes added bob and blend that should work. thou deinterlace should normally be better
