HI,

I have a 108mbps router and a 108mbps bridge that goes into the back of the xbox.

When using my laptop i can stream dvd no problems, when using XBMC and trying to stream a DVD i get stuttering playback and its like one second its fine the next second it lags. Its really quick lagging but it makes it un-watchable.

I did the obvious thing like put the cache to full on all the cache settings but it still does it.

Is there a setting that i should change or cant the xbox handle it ? ?

Thanks

the xbox can certainly handle dvd playback. for the past few months, i've been streaming dvd iso's from a samba share over a standard 54 meg 802.11g wireless network. however, im not using the wireless adapter. im using wireless bridging between upstairs (where the xbox is) and the basement (where my media server is).

Pretty sure it was the version i was using. I have gotten hold of a latest version i can find. Which seems to be a pimped version or something and i tried that and it seemed to stream fine. The one i was using prior to that was a th something or other.

I am using a wireless router and in the xbox is a dlink wireless bridge

What is the best version to use ?

the only reliable version is one you compile yourself. but if you cant, find a T3CH build.

Here's a quote that describes wifi quite accurately, enjoy!

Despite manufacturer's claims to the contrary, 802.11g products are generally not suited for streaming video. The problem is not speed, since enhancement techniques generally provide bandwidth to spare. The problem comes from 11g's use of the overcrowded 2.4GHz band. Most consumers just do not have a quiet enough RF environment to enjoy trouble-free wireless video. Audio streaming may be possible due to its very low (100's of kHz) bandwidth requirements, but again, success is highly dependent on environment.

and just so you know, 802.11n and pre-n also use this overcrowded band.

Well like i say it works fine now, it was the version i was using.

I knew my wifi was capable it was just the software had problems.

Also i dont know if anyone can help.

I would like to install XBMC as my dash, Is there a program i can use to ftp straight to the xbox.

At the moment i have to use a cd i have to install an old version of xbmc as the dash on C:\ then i ftp onto the xbox start to un-install. Then it errors.

I restart and it loads a code screen saying it cant load xmbc, it then starts ftp. I delete the rest and everything else then put a later version on.

I also cant get the xboxmediacenter.xml to work.

I have the files in c:\xmbc

My modchip will run evoxdash.xbe, and the xboxmediacenter.xml already has the home directory as c:\xbmc

But it always says keymap error even when i make sure that, that file is there

Trying to still get xbmc to be default dash.

I have installed Unleashx and then deleted that and put a evoxdash.xbe and the xboxmediacenter.xml in the c: drive.

I have installed xbmc in

e:\apps\xmbc

I have pointed the xboxmediacenter.xml to e:\apps\xbmc

when i restart the xbox i get a t:\guisettings.xml line O failed to open file

What am i doing wrong ? ?

I was having the exact same problem with the t:\guisettings.xml line O failed to open file error. I tried several different settings and could never get XBMC to be the dash until i ran xbe shortcut maker. That solved my problem first shot.

BTW: My XBMC folder was in F:\Apps\XBMC also make sure you set your home directory location in the xml settings file.

ignore that btw as it's utterly incorrect. no <home> anylonger

I have one more question if i may,

I am trying to setup a UPNP share, it is all working, i view alot of pictures though and for some reason when i use the UPNP option i cant see the thumbs like you can say if you go along the Workgroup option.

How do i get the thumbs to show when using the UPNP option ? ?

Well on everything it seems that i can see the files but they dont play or open ?

I can see on my media but when i press the select button on the remote nothing happens

Thanks

Also just set up a smb share to my PC.

I followed the tutorial and i set up an account on my PC for my xbox.

It is all working perfectly with no problems.

Although i would prefer not to have all the security.

Is there a way to setup a smb share without having to create accounts.

Its just the other machines on the network cant get onto my machine now and i would have to create lots of accounts on my machine for them too.

If i just put it back to simple file sharing and try to use the SMB its asks for a username and password and basically stops working again.

Thanks

i have been using the following code in my bookmarks which point at samba shares:
<source>smb:\\192.168.0.1</source>
obviously, thats the IP address of a computer on my network which has simple shares. perhaps once you have turned on simple file sharing you need to delete the shares you have and then make new ones?

did you disable the guest account? i think that needs to be enabled.

I dont think that there was ever a guest account, Before i created a xbox limited account. I could browse through my home network on the workgroup tab, i didnt want to use that way though because you have to go through quite a few options before getting to what you want.

Since making it more secure if i put it back it asks for a username and password. It doesnt matter that much as i can just give the username and password out.

I couldnt get the UPNP to work properly, maybe i will create a guest account and see if that works

Going through the workgroup takes forever, but you can define your own source that opens directly to where your media is. I've never done it via the "Add Source" context menu option, but I believe its possible. I prefer to do it manually by editing sources.xml. Just add a new bookmark to the appropiate section (music, video, etc) in this format:

<bookmark>
<name>Foo</name>
<path>smb://workgroupname;username:password@computernameorip/sharename/path/to/media/folder/</path>
<\bookmark>
