okay, please don't shout, just point me at the right threads if this is a really frequently asked question...

I've managed to kill evoX boot on my xbox.

I am very PC literate, but a friend set up my xbox for me after I'd had it (xcuter3) mod-chipped and the hdd upgraded, so when I wanted to change the default boot from evoX to xbmc, I tried a few different ideas, but nothing seemed to be working... so I renamed my xbmc.xbe file to evoXdash.xbe and also left the xbmc.xml (config) file with all the correct paths in the C/ path.

It will now only boot to the xbox standard dash.

If I try to boot to evox/xbmc, it just hangs.

I have the original evoXdash.xbe file on a CD (and on my PC), ready to copy across, but I need a bootable CD that will let me copy that back onto the C/.

The standard MS xbox dash jsut tells me that it isn't an xbox CD and won't let me copy the files anywhere.

Is there an OS on a CD, with a file manager so I can overwrite the dud files on my xbox's C/?

okay, that was 2am drunken ramblings... but does it make sense what I have done?

essentially I need some way of booting my xbox and getting a file explorer, so I can copy my evoxdash.xbe files back onto my C:

only things that I left out were that I performed my massacre of the xbox via FTP and that the xbox has the new front panels so it has an LED output, control buttons for choosing the BIOS and 2 USB ports (not that I think that'll be relevant, but may help).

edit: I've found some references to "auto installer deluxe 3.0" - I'll download that (eMule) and give it a try - hopefully that'll give me an option somewhere just to muck about with files rather than a full re-install. Feel free to shout if I'm on a wild goose chase!!

Should be easy. Push and hold the white button on the controller while booting the xbox. It should boot to config live. This has a built in FTp server.
from memory user is x3 and password is x3

I think you are on the right path in using an installer to gain some sort of FTp access, then you can replace the evoxdash.xbe (I hope you made a backup) and you should be sweet.

If The deluxe auto installer doesnt work, try another one from the installer section on *****

if you're computer-literate, you can look for an xISO maker (basically a valid xbox ISO CD that your xbox can boot) over at xbox-scene. Use that to make a bootable EvoX disc (the xbox will execute default.xbe on the disc) that you can then FTP to and recover your system. That's what I do when I do something that screws up the EvoX setup on my box.
