hye guys, I just traded in my Sony PSP + $125 for a 250gb Xecuter3 modded special edition green xbox. The xbox works good, all games and emulators work but i'm having some problems with the applications. Now, i'm new to the modding scene, but this is what I do know about my xbox:

Speicial Edition Halo XBOX
250GB Hardrive
Samsung DVD Drive
Has Avalaunch (Alpha v0.49.3) as the main boot up application

And the problems I have are these:

Whenever I try loading a DVD movie (original) nothing happens. I go into the 'Yet Another Media Player' and it doesn't read the disc. I've also tried opening XBMC (it's displayed 2 times in the applications list for some reason) and I get this error:

XBMC Fatal Error:
Q:\UserData\guisettings.xml, Line 0
Failed to open file

Network cable unplugged
Unable to init network, retying in X seconds.

Is this because I don't have an internet connection set up on my XBOX? Because, i'm too broke to get those router things and hook it up on the xbox. I've tried using my home dsl modem and the xbox detects the cables but no connection.

Also, whenever I try to enter the microsoft dashboard. I get this error code 21. Please help me out guys, and if there's a solution other than to 'FTP' let mek now because I don't have internet on XBOX and that whole FTP thing sounds too complicated. I know how to use FTP since I run a website but I woudn't know how to set it up to an XBOX. :oo:

Thank You.

UPDATE: Although I have Xecuter3, I don't have the front panel LCDs. I also thing I have an xbox version 1.0 since the MFG date is 2002-02-14

You dont need a router specifically, you can FTP to an xbox via a crossover cable straight from a pc to your xbox.

Here is a guide to show different ways to FTP to your XBox. (http://www.chefelf.com/xbox/networking.php)

I am not an expert, but it sounds to me like the original files for the XBox Dashboard were not reinstalled on your XBox HDD after the person did the original Modding. You are going to have to FTP into your XBox to see what files are on what drives? Specifically what is on your C: Drive.

I also recommend that once you have FTP'd into your XBox you delete your old copy of XBMC, and install a newer version into your XBMC folder as it has a very good file manager to allow you to browse your XBox partitions from within your XBox, and the DVD player on the newer version is fantastic, you could also get hold of a copy of DVDx2 which is a standalone DVD player for your XBox.

I would also recommend that you read through and digest some of the tutorials available here (http://www.xbox-scene.com/xbox-tutorials.php?p=#0) as you yourself should really know the ins and outs of running a modded xbox so that you can get the most out of it.

See if you can find out what version of XBMC it is (build date). Might be a glitch that requires an update.

So if I get a crossover cable made for the xbox like this one:

Im all set and I can even play xbox online? Also, if one end of that cable hooks up to the xbox where does the other end go? It can't go on my ethernet hole thing because that's where my modem is connected to.

No, you wont be able to play online! The crossover cable is just to connect to your pc so that you can ftp to your xbox, this will enable you to manage your partitions on your xbox, add / delete applications and games.

Playing games online is a whole new ballgame, you have to decide which router you want to go down. XBox Live or Xllink Kai? If you want to play on XBox live you will need to be able to boot into a retail M$ Bios and your HDD will need to be lockable. Xlink Kai, is a program that runs on your PC that enables you to play against other people over the net via the system link in games. This will need reading up on.

This is so confusing! :oo:

But with that crossover cable, if one end of the cable goes to the xbox where does the other one go to on the PC? I only have 1 ethernet hole.

You need another ethernet "hole" and then you enable ICS.

why are people always trying to avoid simply getting a 10/100 router? they're pretty cheap now, and with more and more devices becoming networkable/network aware, it's a solid investment...

ok so if I want to fix up XBMC, Microsoft Dashboard and some other messed up apps I have to enter FTP? Well, I also want online gaming. Would the following be compatible with both XBOX live AND Xlink (if not, please let me know which will)

Microsoft Wireless-G Xbox Adapter

...AND...

Linksys WRT54G Wireless-G Router
http://images.amazon.com/images/P/B00007KDVI.01._SS400_SCLZZZZZZZ_V1131006240_.jpg

Also, are these easy to install? And since there's a adapter made officially for the XBOX is there a Router for it aswell? Thanks!

EDIT: How about the DVD drive not detecting the discs? Is this 'fixable'? And where can I download the latest version of XBMC with instructions on how to install?

Playing on Xbox Live with a modded box will get you banned from the service. It has nothing to do with your hardware (router) setup.

You've asked a very wide range of questions - so before someone rips you a new one, I'd suggest doing some (a lot of!) reading.

Try the tutorials here (http://xbox-scene.com/xbox-tutorials.php)

and this (http://forums.xbox-scene.com/index.php?showtopic=290958) thread helped me out immensely when I was learning the ropes.

Good luck!
