ummm no not unless you format the whole thing to fatx then you wont be able to read it in your PC and besides XBMC dosn't read memory cards as far as I know and thats what it would show up as

short answer
Don't Bother

N.A.S. Best of both worlds.. no FTP required mapped on both systems move things around almost instantly & changes are reflected instantly as well.

XBMC does read memory cards, you just have to create your own bookmark to like H:\. xbmc can even read my Cigar Pro 256mb pen drive

and i wouldn't mind formatting my external hdd to fatx, as i had to do that for my pen drive as well...

N.A.S. sounds good. If theres anymore suggestions please post!

Honestly, I read and read and hunted and finally just decided to use NASLite. Any old IDE disk in a tower and the OS boots from a floppy and poof you have one of those 4 or 500 dollar boxes. Since I had an old HP minitower (533 mhz 256 M of SDRAM) I just chucked hard drives in and for @ 200 I built mine with new hard disks.

yeah pretty much. there is a developer working on getting FAT12/32 filesystem support into XBMC, but like everyone else, he's a busy guy who is working on it in his spare time, so there is no realistic ETA on when this feature will get finished, if ever.
