View Full Version : E-Mail Server Within XBMC
this might not be the target of this project, but as you already have a ftp and a http server running with xbmc, it might be an interesting idea:
xbmc is already much more than an mediaplayer, as it offers some network services... i would love to see additional services you need for your private network (without having to install linux). the most important (missing) is the ability to download email from pop3 or imap servers on the net and save them on the box, so you can read them from any pc connected to your lan.
what do you think?
[sorry, this should be a feature sugesstion, can anybody move the post - thank you]

yes moving to the feature suggestions forum and note that it's requsted before and we have said no we will not implement it
just set up one of the pcs on the lan as a mail server. the xbox has few enough resources without having to run pop3 / smtp / imap.

sorry for posting an old feature suggestion, i read the features suggestions of the last 30 days and searched for email within the feature suggestions "from the beginning". as i could not find this feature i thought it was save to post the request.
thank you for the information, allthough it is not what i hoped to hear . ???

i have a linux installation (xebian) on my xbox running a webserver (apache), an email server (cyrus + webfrontend - opengroupware), freevo (a linux mediaplayer software) and all the stuff xebian starts per default.
i can play avis while having all the software running in the background... so it should not be a problem.
but, as the developers already decided not to implement it, this is of no importance * :( .
xebian probably doesn't have a fancy graphical front end though... http://www.xboxmediaplayer.de/forums/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif

freevo is the fancy graphical frontend http://www.xboxmediaplayer.de/forums/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif ... everything could be that easy if linux would boot in 5 seconds :d
i started to code an email client in python.
not a server but at least it's email related http://www.xboxmediaplayer.de/forums/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif
