i have formatted my hardrives and reinstalled win xp. after that, when trying to stream video from my computers hard drive thourgh xbmc it won't play. but the wierd thing is that the "old" video files which i had before formatting my computer are streaming and playing as normal. all the files are in the same folder.

anyone has a idea how it could be fixed?

since you can see the old movies it doesn't seem to a network problem but a windows problem.

i would try two things. first unshare and then reshare the folder on the pc and reboot. can you now stream the videos? if this doesn't work move all the movies out the shared folder to some other "temp" location. then move all the movies back from the "temp" location to the shared folder.

i had this same issue between my xbox and pc and moving the files out of the shared folders and back in actually worked for me. apparently from what i am told from this form is the windows does poor job of keeping track of the shared permissions so everynow and then it loses track.

thanks for the reply. i tried your diffrent suggestions but it does not help. actually now i can't play the "old" movies either. ???
but the files are still in the list, but nothing happens when you click them.

i have also tried to move a movie file to the f:drive on the xbox, but even that file does not play. furthermore i have also updated the xbmc.

seems to be completly wierd. altough the only files which will play is .iso.

do you have any ideas? could it be some problem with my d-link firewall (but it worked before formatting my drives on cpu and .iso are playing). would really appreciate some help.

i am by far not a expert. it seems that its not a network problem if you moved the file to your xbox and it still won't play. i was looking at the log and the file you were trying to play was "when a stranger calls/stress-wasc.scr.xvid.avi". this is probably a stupid question by why is there so many ".: in the file name? if you rename to .avi will it play on from your local f drive on your xbox?

that log only says 'something went wrong'

that we heard from you already. enable debug logging (hold x+y while xbmc starts) to get useful logging.

thanks for the help so far.

have made a new log and posted it at a pastebin (http://pastebin.ca/78861)

as you can see i have tried to play both .avi and .iso.

would really appreciate if you had some idea what is wrong and how it could be fixed

starting xboxmediacenter. built on dec 16 2005

i have no idea what bugs were and were not present back then.

stuff that caught my attention; the insane cache rate. 8mb? that's like 1 min of movie compressed with mpeg4.

by any chance did you change your motherboard to one based on a via chipset?

i built a fileserver last week with a via based board and ran into an almost identical problem. turns out my 200gb maxtor diamondmax 10 ata100 hard drive and my motherboard don't get along.

i had to resort to moving my 200gb drive back to my main machine. after speaking to a lot of people about the issue, i believe that updating the bios on my drive will resolve the issue.

now if only i had enough space to backup 200gb of data to another drive... *sigh*
