is there anyway to jump to a pacific time in a video (particularly xvid) i tend to start waching them then turn it off half way through and the next time i tun it off i end up having to f forward about 1 hour of the film?

use the resume feature.
if you started watching something but stopped playback, next time you might want to resume playback, use the contextmenu on the file (you use white with controller / title on remote to bring up the context, where resume is an option)

two ways:
dvd remote, you can enter the time using the numerics (with latest versions you will have to change keymap.xml, see forums or new manual).
use skipping, it'll let you skip 10 minutes at a time, so that should be quite easy to get you 60 minutes into the movie. on the dvd remote this is "up arrow", don't know how this is done using the game controller.
