hey guys, i've created a big package of strm files (i.e., no script needed) for 225+ different tv stations/feeds in 71 countries. the list is sorted through folders by country for halfway-easy reference. i got tired one night (after the long-dead xsp stream-pack plugin lost its saved addresses) and decided to create this for the betterment of everyone who just wants to stream world television without getting fancy about it.

it's based from many different large lists on the web (after reading asx files right and left to get the mms:// addresses for most) and i tested almost all the streams on the pc to make sure they're at least up and running; i can't vouch for all working in xbmc, but i can tell you that there can't be too many non-working streams. if you find any that are positively not working at all, drop a line in this thread. also, so far all the streams in my pack are windows media only. (see below for my questions on rm streaming.)

file: xbmc-tv.zip (http://www.op9.net/files/xbmc/xbmc-tv.zip)

just throw it all in a "tv" folder on your xbox and add the appropriate bookmark under "video" in xboxmediacenter.xml. you're set. anyone who can add onto this growing list with real working world tv station feeds (i.e., no live webcams, random video clips, or crap like that), please feel free to help! also, feel free to pass the archive around and enjoy. it's just my way of giving back to a community that gave my xbox a new life. ;)

anyone familiar with streaming realmedia through the rtsp:// protocol on the xbmc (or is there just a problem with rm playback in the 05-28 t3ch build)? got a sample file you could paste? if i can get that figured out, the number of stations i can add and release would rise dramatically. thanks in advance on that.

Hey all, sorry for the lack of an update here until now. I updated the pack to 442 channels in 102 countries over the course of this week, and it can be obtained at:

http://www.op9.net/files/XBMC/XBMC-TV.zip

To use:

1. Extract ZIP into a directory on your PC/Mac.
2. Upload that directory to the Xbox (on mine, F:\)
3. Add source under "My Videos" for the directory
4. You should be all set at this point. Enjoy!

Most streams have been personally verified working, but some are part-time and others do go down from time-to-time without warning. I do my best to get rid of dead channels after checking them over the course of a couple of weeks to make sure they're really dead.

Also, some of these will return demuxing errors; the experimental mplayer.dll fixes a lot of these. (Most of these demuxing problems occur in the German streams).

If anyone has additional television streams (preferably actual stations rather than internet-only), please submit them to me at http://www.op9.net/contact.

What about make diferent strm packs by countries or languages?

vanadium

If you want just a specific country, you can just extract that country's folder and upload using my instructions. Unfortunately, I don't have time to arrange them by specific language.

Ok, I'm making a lot of headway with new streams, so for here on out you may want to check my site http://www.op9.net for updates. Thanks for all the support, folks, and enjoy!

Hi,

as I am cooperating with vanadium to keep the streampack up-to-date I can help you with this. I will check for streaming TV from Chile and put it in the pack so you can check out the code from SVN, or, if you don't know how to do that or just don't feel like this, wait until next tuesday to download the updated release of the streampack (every tuesday there is an update to be found). You can find the updated streampack here:

http://code.google.com/p/xbmc-strm-collection

If you feel that any channels/countries are missing post here or send me a PM.

Cheers

Hi guy,

So should we use:

http://www.op9.net/files/XBMC/XBMC-TV.zip

Or

http://code.google.com/p/xbmc-strm-collection

to download the most recent compiled version??

Cheers

Right now we are trying to merge both packs into one, which takes some time. Actually the streams on http://code.google.com/p/xbmc-strm-collection are tested to be working recently (there will be changes continuosly as the precompiled download pack could be up to 7 days old). The pack from http://www.op9.net/files/XBMC/XBMC-TV.zip features more countries/channels but some of them may be out of date. So it is up to you to decide which pack you download. For the instance I'd grab the two of them :) As the project on google matures I think the pack from op9 is about to become obsolete (hate to say that), so I think vanadium and I are going to perform the switch to google.

Sydney: Send me a PM with your email in it, I will send you a precompiled version with the surf cams in it. (No waiting until tuesday ;) )

Cheers

That are great news. Really cool, that you all are working on the same and not on concurrent projects. So the community gets the best results from one, and only one maintained stream-pack.

Would be nice with a python script (http://www.xboxmediacenter.com/wiki/index.php?title=Building_Python_Scripts) based on GUI Builder (http://xbmc.org/forum/showthread.php?t=21315) that could work/look like the XBMCScripts Script Installer (http://www.xbmcscripts.com/scriptservice/) but instead of downloading other scripts automatically should download selected .strm files from http://code.google.com/p/xbmc-strm-collection/ by category (or all, or only specifically selected strm files) and place them in selected folder/folders for audio and video.

...hint, hint, wink, wink :;):

Hi Gamester,

We've already come up with the idea of having a python script. But I don't think it is very handy to download .strm files first and then view them in a separate window/app/XBMC section. As you do have to have a working i-net connection anyway I'd prefer having a script that fetches the streaming URLS and their respective metadata from a XML source and plays it back directly within the script. Actually this is what I am working on. The work is multi-part as I think there have to be some steps established first, before we should go to a viewing script:

1. Maintain the collection and put as many WORKING .strm files in it as possible. No content means no attractiveness, though content comes first. Also it is crucial to document the project (e.g. in the project wiki; we still could need some help here!!!!!). (Current phase)

2. Build a webservice that walks through the collection and checks on a daily basis whether a stream is still up or not. Backend should be a database as to keep the maximum flexiblity. (Current phase. This is what I am working on right now, should be finished by end of next week).

3. Build an extensive metadata database from existing .strm files. Metadata is the key to success of this collection, as it gives the user the flexibility to view the content he wants to see. (Starting in March).

4. Build a XML webservice that connects the database with a XML frontend. The XML frontend should then serve as data source for the python script mentioned above. (Early alpha of script with basic features should be available by the end of February/beginning of March)

5. THIS IS OPTIONAL BUT IMHO A NICE-TO-HAVE: Full integration in XBMC or a XBCM skin, similar to the integration of the Shoutcast directory in "My music". IMHO this would greatly add to the functionality of XBMC. Gamester, what do you think on that issue?

Well, that is basically the roadmap I am heading for. Any support would be greatly appreciated, we still could use people that do the "daily routine", e.g. adding channels, testing channels, write documentation, "customer" support,... so that we can move on faster with the roadmap. If you who is reading this are interested, plz leave me a PM. If you are not sure you have the skills to do that but would be helping if somebody taught you what to do, plz leave me a PM aswell.

So long for now :)
