Use of play button in My Music

first, let me say what a huge improvement the 4-27 release was! the navigational behavior once music is playing is considerably improved. *the menu function actually backs you out once you get to the now playing list rather than taking you back into visualization. the web interface is actually somewhat stable and the "play" behavior actually adds the first selection to the "now playing" list instead of just playing it. *you no longer have to do "add to queue". *the only problem is that it only works with the first album or track selected. *ideally, if you select a second album, and press play, it would be great if it would append it to the "now playing" list and start playing the new selection.

why append?

if you press play, surely you want it played (ie stop playing what i'm currently playing, and play this instead).

this seems most intuitive to me - having it tack on to the end of the now playing list, then change the position in the list would mystify me.

my apologies, i was not clear. your interpretation is correct. it should beging playing, however, it should be placed in the "now playing" list, after what had been selected previously. although clearing the "now playing" list and replacing it with the new selection would also be okay.

ok, it should be doing that.

ie play on a folder should clear the now playing list and place the new folder on the now playlist list.

play on a file, will clear the now playing list but will construct a temporary playlist of the current folder's contents.

this i agree is inconsistent. not sure if we'll have time to remedy it before 2.0 or not.

the main problem is that we have to keep things consistent with queuing new files and folders. if you were playing a file a from a folder, and then went off and queued another file, you would expect it to be played after the current file, not after the current folder has finished (as that was never specifically played - only the file was). this is the reason that when you press play on a file it gets added to a temporary playlist (basically entirely for the "auto play next item" feature of my music.)

working better in 5/5 release. *new item is placed into the "now playing" playlist and begins playing.
