i finally got my smb shares to work! yay! *
now i cant get any 5.1 surround sound to work. *files that i know have ac3 5.1 audio, files that used to work off the internal xbox hdd will play but without 5.1. *files that are on my smb shares will play, but again, no 5.1. *i have dts and ac3 encoding selected in the settings. *i have the xbox hooked up to my dolby digital dts decoding, etc, etc sony reciever via the opitical digital thing. any help will be most appreciated!!!

i have this situation as well. any answers to this post would be welcome.

1. make sure ac3 and dts capable receiver is enabled in audio settings and you are uding digital output mode.
2. play a file that you know has ac3 or dts in 5.1 channels.
3. press black while the file is playing. it will say "ac3-spdif" or similar. you are getting 5.1 sound.
4. if it does not say ac3-spdif then you are speeding up or slowing down the file using the framerate conversion option (settings->my videos).

not sure if this is correct or not. but maybe you need to go into the ms dash and turn on digital sound. kind of like what you have to do with the clock and widescreen.

thanks for the help. i will try these suggestions. i belive i have the correct settings, but maybe i didnt set it correctly in the ms dash. how do i do that? thanks again!

to enable full dolby surround sound, go to ms dash via filemanager.
within filemanager, you should have c drive, d drive, dvd rom, etc.
select c drive, find and select a file called "xboxdash.xbe" i believe its called. that will take you to the default xbox screen. from there, enable it in the audio section under settings. cant believe nobodys replied for over two years...
Way to dig up a thread that is nearly 3 years old :)
