View Full Version : PLS/STRM download and upload site
hi
i can see from the forums that a lot of people have problems finding media streams (web radio/web tv) and to make their xbmc stream files (.pls / .strm or whatever) correct.
would there be any interest in the community for a site where people can add media streams to a list, and users can choose the streams their want and download a .pls/.strm file in the right format containing the streams of their chioce ?
if there is any interest, i can have a beta-version site ready by the end of the week it all goes well ;-)

yes, sure interested. streaming media is cool and getting better these days.

an option in xbmc for downloading the .strm-files directly to the xbox would be also appreciated.
yes......but that option i will have to work out together with the xbmc team once i get the site structure running :-)
so far it is possible to add yourselves as user, to login and to add streams...
will work on choosing streams for your .strm files and downloading your selected streams as a .strm.
hopefully it will be ready within a couple of days.
....i will need someone to help me out with the design thoughj, but you will see what i mean once the beta site is launched ;-)

k, i believe xad/xantal is working on something similar (but in asp) maybe you can help each other out?, we love to host the site here.
personaly i like the web page(s) with the lists to look something similar to the lists on shoutcast.com so easy to find/download, at least for those without internet to xbox, but an direct (xml?) interface for xbmc would be optimal for those with internet to their xboxes
there are guys on the french scene that are working quite actively to compile url packages

where u can download the package (see among the 1st posts from dash22 : there is a rar file called ____packstream something. it is updated frequently by dash22 or other active members. currently there hundreads of streams working on xbox already included.
now if either macsat and/or xad/xanta wanna make use of these already made packs in order to build a site, that would be brilliant. dash 22 said to me there was no problem for you guys to use those packs. so feel free to use thta'swaht internet is made for :-)

thanks again, many interesting streams. it would be great though if we could find a common place. ie possibly here on xboxmediaplayer instead of another forum for many of the users here. of course the same could be said for your forum, and i like your forum, but it is one more forum at the end of the day.
of course you made a lot of the work, and i think it'd make sense for you to continue on your forum, but having an international forum, with room for both english and french and german ... would be great, although the majority might use english ;)

just to post a little status of my upload/download site so that you guys dont think my idea died ;-)
i have nearly finished everything, and there is only a few technicalities to go until i will be ready to go public.
the site will allow people to :
- add themselves as users (reg. only needed to post streams, not to download them).
- add new streams
- select streams to "shopping basket"
- download a .strm / .pls file with the streams they have selected to their "basket".
later i will add :
- better design (you will know what i mean once you see the site)
- search possibilities
- possible direct communication with xbmc
for now it is absolutely no problem for me to host it on www.macsat.com since that site can handle a lot of traffic with no probs at all.
i do see the point in letting it be hosted here at xboxmediaplayer.com since this is the site people know. i will however keep it at macsat.com until i am sure that everything works the way it should.....:-)
if anyone has any feature suggestions they are welcome.

sounds great!
personally i would like to see something like this in catagorizing:
country which goes into
radio or tv
if tv is selected:
live or recorded
if radio is selected
live or recorded
if live is selected
genre (80s, talk etc...)
something along those lines...
maybe use same catagorzing as google:

except i think it's very important that the streams are clearly divided into countries.
also voting system on if streams are working or not, x amount of votes and it drops off the list or something.
anyway just some ideas :) great job and good luck with this.
great idea about the voting system, where xx negative votes will remove stream from list.
i will aim to implement that soon.
my "beta site" has been delayed a bit due to a lot of work at my daytime job. i will announce it in here once it is ready (a matter of days i hope).
