g'day all

i know that there is the web interface and i have used it quite a lot, but this got me thinking about how to integrate the xbox into the medai management side of my automation system.

i currently use a product called charmed quark (aka cqc). this is similar to say an amx/crestron/homeseer etc system. it has quite good media management capabilities along with the automation side of things (integration into lots of hardware from dvd players to alarm panels and lighting systems).

anyway, what i want to know is would it be possible for such a system to be able to interface to the xbox via the ethernet and control the box.

by control i mean, there would be a respositry on the server which tells cqc where the movie (or mp3) is. this in turn displays the cover art and transport controls on the gui of the pc or tablet being used. pressing the cover art or play for the selected movie then tell the xbox to play that movie (much like the way it works now from the screen within xbmc).

full transport control would also be wanted. i cant think of much else as it more is neede then you would go to the remote for the xbox and use it (such as playing games). i mainly use it for music, movies and tv shows downloaded.

any constructive comments would be greatly appreciated

yes its possble. you would need to write an application that runs on this device and interfaces xbmc via its http api.

I think the control4 disty in AU has this fully functioning via the web interface and ip. There is a thread in the features or on the AU media center web-site I recall reading.

Also checkout these other forum threads:

As well as these videos of just a few examples of what can be done via XBMC's HTTP API:

That used together with python scripts, and XBMC skinning, and you can make it do anything you like as long as you are willing to put some time and work into it:

Hi guys,

I built the XBMC / Control4 interface. The interface allows full media management to be done via Control4's user interface with full automated scanning. Some of you might think why would i want to do this when xbmc does this. The reason behind it is so that you can have multiple media players (xbmc or whatever) and have them access the same media sources with cover art or movie name (on lcd/oled displays) on any of our graphical user interfaces (3.8", 7", 10" touchscreens, zigbee RF remote controls, inwall zigbee keypads).

We also carry a range of zigbee lighting, thermostats, relays and other products. This means that when you start a movie (control4 will manage all your av equipment) you can have lights dim, curtains open/close, motorised screens lift up and down, thermostat set to a comfortable setting, etc etc.

My personal setup includes original xbox's controlled via the IP driver i created along with relays connected to trigger the power. I have also been dabbling with wake on lan as well and that will probably come later. I can walk around my home with either a portable touchscreen or my zigbee remote control and select the room i'm in and the source i want to select (channel artwork, radio station artwork, rhapsody on demand music, movie artwork, lights, comfort, PTZ ip cameras, arm/disarm my security system, set my thermostat, etc). I have also got it so that when my home is armed and i'm away from home my Control4 system turns off all my electronics and randomly at night turns on music, lights, movies, etc to simulate occupancy).

I am both passionate about Control4 and XBMC and i hope to improve the functionality to make life so to say 'everyday easy'. Here is my video on the xbmc interface. Note that this is just to give you an idea of what it is capable of doing but it can do alot more.
