recently the fifth element became available in 720p 16:9 wm9 format. trying to play it with xbmc (build 2004-01-15, maybe 2004-02-12 - sorry - can't remember if i upgraded) produces a black screen and a hung xbox.

the file is 4.32gb in size, and i'm trying to play it over network via smb.

so, is the problem with the filesize or the format? (... it shouldn't hang anyway, but it would be interesting to know)

i've tried playing it from dvd, but it hangs that way as well.

(... and don't delete legal on-topic forum topics, please.)

i'm having problems playing a 4.3gb wm9 movie with xbmc. i first tried via smb, with a black screen and hung xbox as a result. i then tried playing it from dvd+r, with the same result.

is the likely problem the filesize or wm9 in itself? i was under the impression that wm9 would work.

(the resolution of the video is 1280*720, exactly the same as the native resolution of my projector, so i'm keen on getting this to work)

thanks for the link - i wasn't aware that it was considered a bug (yet) ;) that's why i posted here - to see what others thought of it.

i was under the impression that the hd-wmv9 files weren't supported due to xbox hardware constraints. i haven't been able to play anything over 480p. i get a few frames then video locks while the audio continues to play.

is xbox hardware uncapable of decoding these streams or is this a bug/unsupported in xbmc?

the thought of hd-wmv9 on xbmc gets me drooling... :d

you don't need an hdtv to play the file.

anyways i tried it and it plays for 2sec and then exits back to the my videos :(

here are some 720p and 1080p trailers/samples from microsofts site http://www.microsoft.com/windows....se.aspx (http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/content_provider/film/contentshowcase.aspx)

update: hmm i tried the scooby doo 2 one and it has some drm crap so on the xbox it plays all busted looking. probably all the ones there have some drm crap..

if you look at the page you posted (http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/content_provider/film/contentshowcase.aspx), it says "for an optimal experience we recommend systems of at least a 2.53 ghz intel or amd athlon xp 2200+ or higher processor for 720p and 3.0 ghz or greater processor for 1080p".

the xbox have a processor that runs at 733 mhz.. and you say you got low fps... i wonder why. ;-)

what version of xbmc? all i get is a black screen and hung xbox, so our results differ.

i see how cpu speed is a problem though - didn't think of it when i tried the clip on my .. 3.2ghz pc :/

not only that but xbmc must use mplayer to convert every video not yuv2 to yuv2, a procsses which is extremly cpu intensive

for wmv9 playback you need to make sure you have the mplayer dll's installed in your mplayer/codec dir.

http://www2.mplayerhq.hu/mplayer/releases/codecs/

just add the contents of the all in 1 package to the codec dir.

yeah i know they're cpu intensive i can't even run 1080p movies on my comp smoothly and its a 3200+.

i'm using xbmc-2004-02-12 to get fifth element 720p workin
