View Full Version : Making XBMC my default dash
i've read the manual thoroughly and have come to the conclusion that since i have a soft mod, things are different. i did the splinter cell soft mod from an action replay memory card that my friend had. it installed unleashx. now.. i looked in the system thing that ux has and found nothing about my bios or whatever it is to know what the boot sequence is. also, in my c: drive, there is only xboxdash.xbe. no evoxdash or default.xbe. but, there is a folder in e: called 'dashboard' and in that is the ux dash.
so i'm wondering.. do i just move the xbe to c and name it evoxdash so it boots before xboxdash and ux? or does it even work that way?
again, i've read the manual, i know the steps. but i have a softmod, not a chip. thanks.

i suggest it's probably in e:\dashboard then, given the data that you have provided. what are the xbe's in that folder?
in e:/dashboard there is..
[backup]
[skins]
config.xml
default.bak
default.xbe
items.xml
mplayer.rar

try putting the xbmc xbe in place of the default.xbe
make sure you know how to recover before you do it though!
you can then follow the normal dash tutorials, just replace all instances of "c:" with "e:\dashboard"

edit..
the only instance of c: in the xml is "<dashboard>c:\evoxdash.xbe</dashboard>" . is that all i have to change?

1. use ftp to install xbmc to e:\xbmc. make sure it runs from unleashx.
2. alter the <home> tag in xboxmediacenter.xml to e:\xbmc.
3. place the default.xbe and xboxmediacenter.xml in e:\dashboard.
4. reboot.

i considered making a stripped xbmc softmaod installer however an 8 meg card just wont cover it lol. now when i use a 128 meg memory stick as a card.......
different story ;)
for your purposes i would just re-run the softmod game hack and go back to what you ewre doing
