i put together a fire visualisation/screensaver for xbmc for my own use. now that i've used it for a little while i was interested in "giving back" by putting it out there if other people are interested, but i have a couple questions first.
1. i've written it as a visualization because i wanted the fire going whenever music was playing, but it just ignores audiodata etc so it is really just a screensaver. my code compiles and runs as both so i could put either out there. if audio data is ignored is it best just to submit it as a screensaver? there are 9 different fire effects provided, so i also like the visualisation for switching between fire types.
2. is there a place that i can/should put it so that people can try it out? i know about the sourceforge submission page, but being that i'm new to this i want to make sure things are cool before submitting anything.
i'm also really wondering if anyone is actually even interested in fire on their tv anymore.
if this was the wrong place to put this, i'm sorry, i assume it can be locked/moved.
thank you all for all your work on this software. i bought an additional xbox simply to run your code and i'm always impressed by it and this community. thank you.

sf.net is the place. and you're quite safe, hard to piss anybody off by 'giving back' :)
i'm certain we'll get it into cvs.

would you mind posting a screenshot for us? use 'left joystick' *click* (aka l2) to take screenshots. they are saved as .bmp in the q:/screenshots/ directory. if you dont have any hosting email to lotobak **at** gmail.com

thank you for your replies. i'll be putting the patch up at sourceforge momentarily.
the fire really comes courtesy of the xflame (xscreensaver) and flame f/x developers. i just took their great ideas and wrapped directx around them. because of that there are 9 effects (8 flame f/x and 1 xflame). the first screenshot is xflame (my personal favorite), and the other three are the 3 varieties that make up flame f/x (wall of flame, discrete flames, combination). i should note that these pictures look a little darker than they do on my tv, and you can control the colors with the xml files anyway.

actually, that is what they really look like.
i started with xflame, because i thought that looked best, but i had some friends who preferred the others. to each his own i guess, that's why i put them all in one package. :)

tartag: yeah, you can find the visual studio project here:
fire visualisation/screensaver patch (http://sourceforge.net/tracker/index.php?func=detail&aid=1372151&group_id=87054&atid=581840)
spiff has been having some problems with it that i'm trying to work through, but haven't been able to reproduce them on any of the xboxes that i've tested it on. more users (testers) are always appreciated.
i've been using it around my place almost non-stop to play my christmas music.
feel free to add a prebuilt dll/package to the patch page and i'll test also

i'm having a great time doing this!
hi, just wanted to add that i still get the issues with the precompiled version (that is, not an issue with my build env).
this is great. most of the other visualizations as so busy, i'm worried that they're going to trigger my epilepsy!
thanks for your work on this.
