hey i hope someone here can help me, i had an active connection to the internet via roadrunner (time warner). my computer shut down and restarted after running a spybot search on my system. i went to log into the internet upon things starting up again and i got a pop up stating such and such site cant be located. at first i thought maybe that site was down but then i noticed no address that i typed in worked. it simply would not connect. i went into device manager and made sure my ethernet port was enabled (it was), i then went into internet connections and made sure it was auto detect and it was. i went into internet networking connections (not that i am using a router) and tried for the sake of it to establish a network. it went through the set up wizard and nothing. i did the same to establish a regular internet connection and nothing. i am not sure if there is something with the set up wizard. can anyone think of any other thing i should check. i've done device manager/internet connections/network connections so far. might it be missing a set up wizard file or something?

my specs:
sony viao rx640-stock with a ati video card, external sound blaster card and i've never had this issue before.

any help is appreciated.

check for link light on your pc/cable modem
if you do have a link then run start->run->type in 'cmd' no quotes

then type ipconfig /renew

if it does not get an ip then your cable modem/isp is not giving you an ip address. some providers require the mac address of your computer to be on the network for an hour or so before it will give you a dhcp lease (aka ip address)

ok now if that's not the problem, my internet connection page on the control panel does not display a connection set for lan or dial, i run the wizard to create one but nothing happens. is there something i could use or buy to do it for me?
