i'd love to be able to hide the text that displays under the folder icons. this would be very nice for when you user custom folder.jpg icons when using the large icons, not list.

to expand on your idea a little -- how about allowing for user defined displaying of each folder ?
for example, let xbmc display a folder based on a file named something like "displaymethod.dat"

my "tv" folder i would always like to have displayed as small icons (i have a folder.jpg in each tv show folder). i could accomplish this by having a displaymethod.dat file in this folder with the string "small icons" in it.
i would prefer each tv show folder to show up as a list. so i'll create a file with "list" in it in these folders.
since the file is not a video file, it would be hidden from view.

doesn't this sound like something which would be easy to implement ?

other options which would be nice to be able to configure on a per-folder basis, i a options.dat file or equivalent:

display: icons | large icons | list
sort: date | size | name, ascending | descending
stack: on | off
recursive: yes | no
show folder name: yes | no

these options would be the default method; the user could still change method when navigating the folder but the default would always be as specified.

the recurive flag could be set to have the options apply to this folder and subdirectories...
