Directory listing saving/cache

i have a few mp3s on a linux machine running samba, which i use xbmc to play them. i find it really slow to get the initial listing and also when i drop from a subfolder to the main folder its takes ages to bring up.
might it be possible, that for each session, it saves the initial listing of a directory until the user click the 'refresh' button?

do you mean that when you open a directory that it scans the music and saves to the db.

or do you mean that i have to scan the directory.

scanning is manual. after a scan, the tag information is stored in the database, so it doesnt need to retrieve it from the files.
