What's happened to all the skins?

i keep visiting the usual xbmc skin sites and alternatives to pm3 are getting thin on the ground.
have people got fed up of making skins?
i remember several months ago, as fast as people were posting skins, they were out of date and wouldn't work with the latest builds. does anybody think this has had a major hand in the lack of new ones?

that's surely a reason, another reasons:

- making a xbmc-skin is a lot of and hard work
- pm3 is great
