when i plug the component video into my hdtv all i get is sound and no picture.it only works with the original a/v cables. how do i get the component cables to work with my hdtv.

have you tried checking the component cables to ensure that they're not defective? when you start up the xbox, do you see the "flubber" animation and xbox logo? if not, i'd assume that the cables are bad.

you probably didn't get into your original xbox bios and tell it to use the different hd resolutions. double check your settings under video options!
yes, you have to enable the htdv modes that your tv supports in the microsoft dash first.
also. the xbox may be outputting a video mode that your htdv does not supprt, such as 480i. there are all sorts of kinda-hdtvs coming out that only support a bare minimum of modes.
