hi

i'm fairly new to modding. i'm in the process of transferring a lot of files to my modded xbox but my speeds are so slow - i seem to average around 300-400kb/s. how can i improve my speeds? here's my setup

xbox: xenice ice, with latest xbmc build (27/9), upgraded hdd 200mb and ethernet connection to router
pc: wireless card 802.11g, 2 hdds, zone alarm, smartftp
network: 802.11g router

what i tend to do is use smartftp to transfer files to my xbox. here i think are some culprits for slow speeds, but i'm not sure:

- using wrong pc ftp software or smartftp not configured properly
- my pc hdds are quite full - should i use a partition that has more space for ftping? how much space?
- i tend to ftp to my xbox whilst it is running xbmc. should i be ftping to a different dashboard/program?

thanks in advance for any help.

for high speed data transfers get a proper lan. wlan is utter shite for transferring large amounts of data due to the high latencies and extreme overhead (~33%) of 802.11g(b).

discspace should be irrelevant as long as you have enough.

if you can somehow increase the packagesize used in smartftp; do it.

if you're transfering a lot of small files (e.g. xbox isos), use qwix + a dashboard that supports boost transfers (coming in xbmc soonish)
since transfering a lot of files with ftp suffers greatly from the high latency of wlans.

try flashfxp ftp-client instead of smartftp and follow all the hints, tips and tweaks here (link) (http://www.xboxmediaplayer.de/cgi-bin/forums/ikonboard.pl?act=st;f=8;t=361) on how to optimize your network performance configuration.
