hi there.
it seems that the latest release 01/15 has a little problem finding movies with a foreign title.
example:
batteries not included (german title : das wunder in der 8. strasse) - just false results. the earlier releases of xbmc could handle that fine.
any ideas?

hi,
filename for "batteries not incuded" ist "das wunder in der 8. strasse.avi"
there are also problems with:
"original movie-titel" - "german movie-title/filename"
"army of darkness" - "armee der finsternis.avi"
"the road to el dorado" - "der weg nach el dorado.avi"
"remember the titans" - "gegen jede regel.avi"
"gotcha!" - "gotcha - ein irrer trip.avi"
"jingle all the way" - "versprochen ist versprochen.avi"
this happens only when the german title is different than the original movie title.
hope that's what you wanted to know :)

try searching imdb itself like >
http://www.imdb.com/find?tt....strasse (http://www.imdb.com/find?tt=on;nm=on;mx=20;q=das%20wunder%20in%20der%2 08%20strasse)
these are the results the xbox will get from imdb, i myself cannot find the movie myself on the imdb site.
imdb changed their search and page layout, this is why xbmc needed some changes. but i think that their changes to the search causes your problem. not xbmc's changes.
also, we simply send the filename after some filtering to imdb for search. the word strasse is as foreign to xbmc as the word hello. so it cannot be a bug of xbmc not handling foreign languages, we simply send a text string.
i will look to see how we can make a better search. but it depends on the results imdb give us.

yeah,
seems to be right.
think the "bug" is, that imdb don't list the german title for this one.
a better search...mmmh...i think the only way to solve this problem, is to adding a manual search for movies on imdb or to name the file locally with the original title.
what about a the manual search? it's possible to insert that as an extra option in the xbmc?

it would be nice if the imdb search would find also german film titles like the original imdb site - and write them to the xbox moviedb - because otherwise there are english titles for my german movies!
the greatest would be the implemantion of www.ofdb.de for german description and pics ;)
thx for your great job !
hi, i have a suggestion for xbmc:
imdb url in xboxmediacenter.xml
why?
if i connect to www.imdb.com and search for a spanish title, i not obtain the correct result.
but, if i connect to spanish.imdb.com and search for a spanish title, i obtain the correct result.
the same for german.imdb.com, french.imdb.com, italian.imdb.com with german, french and italian titles
thanks.
would be a nice feature, no doubt!
hi all it's possible add new sites beyond imdb??
thanks
pazzeo

no, it's not possible for an end-users to do this, you would have to program code for it so only c++ developers can do it
the problem is that xbmc searches http://www.imdb.com ... you'll only find german titles there if they are the original titles of the movie. if xbmc searched http://akas.imdb.com finding german titles should not be a problem. perhaps an option to search for "foreign movie titles" would be helpful here.
marky.
hi.
i want that xbmc uses german.imdb.com instead of us.imdb.com. searching works fine, but most of the movie details are 'not available'
i already changed the url in http.cpp and imdb.cpp. the strings imdb.cpp parse for are changed, e.g. from 'directed by' to 'regie'.
are there more changes to do?
hope somebody can help.

hi.
with the know taht ther is an akas.imdb.com url all works fine.

imdb is great, but i am german and i would love it if there would be an database for german users to. can someone please add a second database like dvd-datenbank.net? and in settings/video you could choose use english database or use german or another database that would be very great.

i don't having any problems with imdb in sweden

i don't having any problems with imdb in sweden
problem the german boys and girls have is that they rename (and dub, urk!) all english movies so they have their own imdb (german.imdb.com)
how to change the path form imdb.com to german.imdb.com? i have the release from 11.11.2004

how to change the path form imdb.com to german.imdb.com?you can't, (because no one has programmed a such feture into xbmc), that's why this feature suggestion thread is open here.

@gamester: fyi, you can use akas.imdb.com and... nothing to code! only replace us.imdb.com to akas.imdb.com in sources, and all working ok.
akas, search in "also known as" tag... it find spanish titles, for example...
wow! cool!
can you tell me where exactly i have to replace us.imdb.com with akas.imdb.com?
thank's a lot!

can someone tell me which file i have to edit to replace us.imdb.com with akas.imdb.com?
please. :)
thank's a lot!

just search through the source for imdb.com, replacing the url as necessary. it's most likely in imdb.cpp though.
thank you for the answer.
unfortunately editing the source code is too complicated for me. i'll wait for the next release, in the hope you'll implement this useful change (akas.imdb.com finds movie titles also in english, so i think it's the best solution).
thank you for helping!

can someone in the developpers team please replace us.imdb.con to akas.imdb.com in the sources?
i know that for english speaking people it's only a waste of time, but for all non-english speaking users this small change will be very useful. i don't think it will be so hard work changing an url in the source code. ;)
thank you!

1. is it possible to change the default imdb link for looking for the infos in french ? i see an other web site does the same as imdb but in french.

http://www.allocine.fr/film/fichefilm_gen_cfilm=57758.html
i tryed to put the link in the nfo file but no success.
2. is there a futur development with imdb lookup to let us choose the right movie info ?

i've found a third party software that can do what i want.
i use ant movie catalog with sxt 1.3 to create my own myvideo31.db and it works fine.
but i would be simplier if xbmc can do itself *;)
i love the xbmc but the feature to select the language you want in the xboxmediacenter.xml this is what i am waiting fpr since i began to mode my xbox. i never give up the hope that this once will be included ;)

i was just curious if there was a way to display movie information in a language other than english. i only ask because not all the movies i have are english movies.
i've tried doing it myself by editing "imdb#####.xml" files in the /albums/imdb folder. i entered all the information with the appropriate tags, saved the file with proper encoding. i disconnected the box from the internet, but it just stalls when it tries to display the information from my uploaded file.
am i going about this the wrong way? or is it just not possible?

just for the sake of trying.....
use a different nfo file link. instead of http://www.imdb.com/tt00000 try http://french.imdb.com/title/tt000000/ for example for french and see what you get... you might google for other lang alternatives" potugese imdb" etc
let me know how it goes!
if the "entries" are recorded in english to their database however then no language alteration will translate it aside of direct xml editing.

thanks for the suggestion. tried it and it wasn't too helpful though; none of the actual information is translated (i.e. synopsis). just the field names are. so instead of "directed by" its not "realise par".
i was actually more interested in non-western languages though. in particular chinese. i have tried directly editing the xml files but it doesn't display it.
i suppose i could give .db editing a go... i do have some free time on my hands.

a lot of the data (plot etc) is taken from the xml file. some of it is taken from the database (cast etc).
basically the database contains all the stuff we need for the other views (title, director, year, cast, genre).
hope this helps.
if you edit the xml file for other things and it doesn't show up, then there may be an issue with the xml parsing perhaps.
actually, i just committed a somewhat related change. xbmc keeps two copies of the movie title. one is in the database, the other is in the xml file. i just fixed the edit title context menu function to update both of these locations. it previously only updated the database, so sometimes you wouldnt see your edit'ed title (like in the movie info window for instance.).
