installed vmware 4 on my smb file server and can no longer see anything on any smb shares. works fine when i look at shares on another machine and also now since i've uninstalled vmware 4.

could is be due to vmware installing new virtual networking hardware? anyway, i'm not fussed as i don't need vmware on that machine.... just wondered if anyone had noticed this problem.

actually, i have the same problem. restarting the xbox and kill all sessions on the server will solve this problem for me (i get these problems by experimenting with samba).

problem is, you probably use the server name in your shares instead of ip adress. now, when xbmc looks op the server name, the server returns in my case 3 ip addresses (1 real ip and 2 virtual ip's used for the virtual vmware network).
and if samba picks the wrong ip it doesn't work :-)

i have same problem with an application at work that picks up the first ip address it sees so i tried hard coding the ip address in the smb share but still no joy. i might experiment again at some point but for now i'm just glad it works again (if a little slowly with the feb '04 build)

oh and another thing.
2 shares:
1. smb://server/mp3
2. smb://server/mp3

when first browsing into share 1 the second share doesn't work anymore after that until reboot. same other way around. select share 2, dir up "..", share 1 doesn't list files

just make sure [domain, pass, user, server] is exact the same for all shares.
