ok. sarcasm aside, i am reading up on the features listed on amazon.com for xbox360. i am comparing that against what i already do with my modded xbox.

also someone suggested 360 over a htpc (i wanted to build this originally). just looking for opinions.

i wondered if the xbox 360 would cope with divx and xvid files or just play wmv wma files *

guess we will have to wait a little longer to find out.

back to seriousness... it's been announced by microsoft that the xbox360 will be able to stream music and load pictures from a networked xp computer... however, you can only stream video from a media center pc. :(

so what, just install xp media center edition on your comp. they practically give that thing away.

xbox360 will only play wmv, wma and mp3 on (oh, and audio-cd's and dvd-video discs locally from the dvd-rom drive too of couse), more here (link) (http://www.digitalmediathoughts.com/articles.php?action=expand,8654)

In short... GAMES!!! You dont have stuff like oblivion, pgr3 and the other amazing titles to come on the xbox.

I have a 360 for a couple of months now and I am completely satisfied. Its an amazing box and the games that use it correctly (graw, pgr3, oblivion, etc..) provide an amazing experiece...

That said... I was only introduced to xbmc two days ago. Installed it in my "old" xbox yesterday and simple decided not to sell it anymore. Honestly, I found even easier to make it work (for streaming) using my PC shares than to install the MCE connection on the 360. Like already said here, 360 has some playback limitations (and requires Win MCE to be installed on the PC to stream videos) but, in the other hand, can stream music from the pc while playing games.

I would suggest that you consider that the 360īs games, specially the ones to be realeased soon like GOW, FEAR and SC are the best reason to buy a 360. Its without doubt, a better machine and has better LIVE features than the xbox 1 (which you should not be using anyway if you have a modded box).

I am happy with the 360 and, now, happy with xbox+xbmc...

Hope this helps!

Agreed! - Brought XP MCE2005 for 360 but feel let down.
XBMC IS the better product for media playback, plays all formats except for stuff in HD resolutions. 360 is the better product for games.
