greetings everyone!
my dear preston, i'm so glad and so sad to see that i'm not the only one with that problem! what makes me perplexe about this thing, is that i can see my xbox through my pc, install and uninstall stuff on it without any problem, but i can't access at all my computer through the xbox. me and my friends tried to install windows updates, new xbmc version (28-05-2005) i presume, and nothing at all.

i got this one time when trying to play files over a smb share on my linux box. i forget what was causing it exactly, but in the end i just set the share to not require authentication/allow anonymous and took the username/pass out of the smb:// path and just pointed to the ip/share name (ex: smb://192.168.0.200/shared folders/)
hope that helps.
maybe some smb thingie is expiring or something? i cant remember how much is server side and how much is client side. but yeah if you have your router setting up fixed local ip's you should just use those to let xbmc avoid the name resolution hassle.

i had the same problem, the good ole 'success' error... found a way past it?
edit your xboxmediacenter.xml document (via ftp)
create a bookmark in the xml that is simalar to the following.... i just modified the default smb networkshare
<bookmark>
<name>- daz movs</name>
<path>smb://workgroup;username:pwd@daz/downloads/</path>
</bookmark>
note: 'daz' is the name of my pc and 'downlaods' is the share, i'm also in a workgroup called 'workgroup'. i'm connecting via the guest account so the username and password can be anything. (leave it the same as above)
;)
i had the same problem and fixed it
the problem is due to the fact that you can't access the list of shares on the server. you can probably browse \\server\c but not \\server
the fix:
1) make sure your network is secure (especially from outside users)
2) make sure that you allow access to everyone
3) regedt32 -> hkey_local_machine\system\currentcontrolset\contro l\lsa. look in the right-hand pane for the dword value restrictanonymous. if you don't find it, right-click in the right-hand pane, choose edit | new | dword value, and name the value restrictanonymous.
make sure the value is "0"
4) reboot
