xbmp/xbmc logo contest:
maybe some of you have noticed that there is one important thing missing for xbmp and xbmc projects. you're right, a decent logo, well a logo at all as our project has amazingly never had a real official logo! so we've decided to hold this open logo contest. we need an official logo to use on our website, an official skin and wherever a logo could be placed. now unlike most of our other contests this one will not have prize award to be won, except for the pride and honour of knowing that you made 'the official xbmp/xbmc logos'.

contest rules and conditions:
- anyone and everyone can participate as a contender, inc team members.
- logo for xbmc or xbmp or both, a corporate design for both would be nice.
- anyone can enter any number of logos as long as they each significantly differ.
- the logo should not be based on any copyrighted content (like the xbox-x).
- entries should strive to look as professional and elegant as possible.
- each logos should be submitted in 640x480 and 800x600 resolution.
- final result should be submitted in psd or similar (editable) format,
*(if a font is used in the logo/s then including the font file is required).
- if possible please also provide a 468x60 and 88x31 banner size logos.
- the winning logo will be decided on by the xbmp/xbmc team members,
*(or maybe we'll start a poll for the final decision, we'll see).
- there is no reward except for the pride and honour.
- last submission date is one month from now (26/02-2004).

note! submitting your logo means a complete transfer of your legal rights of the logo to the xbmp/xbmc projects, this is just to avoid any trouble, (you can still use your logo style for other things as much as you want).

i se there are various logos in our upload section already. and i see that most of em are plain jpgs. please keep in mind that it will be much easier for us to use it if we have an editable format. so please post your workfile (psd or whatever). :)

might also be a wise idea to give the archive a unique name, or atleast something a little more unique than 'logo.zip' (no pun intended)

hiya guys. *thanks for the fantastic piece of software. *i'm an embroidery designer and am hereby offering my services gratis (free of charge) for you once you have picked a logo design winner. *i will convert the design into an open embroidery format for your personal use. *at that point you can either use it to make gear yourselves and sell it here or post it for the users to be able to download and take to their own local embroidery shops if they have existing gear they want to tag with your logo. *it will be yours so you can do whatever you wish.

i've just made 3 wip logos and uploaded them (2 for xbmc, 1 for xbmp, all pretty much the same). they'r wip as i could only find a tryout version of photoshop on my drive and so it doesnt look how i intended. also the tryout wouldn't let me save so i had to print screen them into paint. they are in morien-xbmc-xbmp-wip-logos.rar along with a txt file.
however, how hard on the copyright rule are you? i've based my images on the top of the xbox console (x with circle in the middle) but have not used anything microsoft made to do it. the only part i didn't make myself was the font.

how hard on the copyright rule are you? i've based my images on the top of the xbox console (x with circle in the middle) but have not used anything microsoft made to do it. the only part i didn't make myself was the font.
i believe that x in the circle count as copywrited so we would not risk using it, same goes with the original xbox fonts style/look.

obviosly an original thing as a project logo cannot contain any copywrited materials no matter what is the source for them.

i think i like the final logo/s to read "xbmc" in large/huge letters then "www.xboxmediacenter.com" in small letters directly under.

what general style/look do you guys otherwise like (for a proffesional looking corporate logo for xbmc and/or xbmp)?

as my opinion, i like graphic style logo with logo type, thats means you can use the graphic logo or the logo type(fonts style) at different place,
eg: nike .

it has graphic style logo or just the nike fonts logo.
so you can use both or one of it depend on where you want to place it.

well i contributed some logos my self. *i made some different variations of the logo and also descriptions. to get all that on preview page might be difficult threfore would not give the right picture of my logo ideas. i dont mind at all if there is no preview page.

edit: one succestion would be thoug to publish the user names that contributed logo to the competition. this way ppl would be sure that their logo is in the competition.

i sent new animation pic couple days ago by email, hoping it will replace the one used on the example logo pages. the original used transparency so worked good only when using background ground. *sample page uses the light blue background.

the animation is soposed to look like the example below.

yes i do respect the rules.
the way i send my pics the transparancy effect was needed cause of the background it used. as the voting is internal thing i thought they are represented internally in the way i sent the logos. still think that cause even now the logoes on your public logo display don't contain my hole presentation of my logoes. thant is fine though, cause i presume my hole presentation of my logos are visible to the internal team. :)

we're are still voting (again, internaly only & 16 team members votested so far, and currently it's a tie between "31a" and "47a/47b/47c"). note that we are looking for a logo that's eye-catching, memorable and easily identifiable using as small a 'footprint' as possible, remembering that it's the logo that matters, not background color, and not how it looks in a skin (well, we might want to use it in the skins under credits) as the logo will primarly be for web-use, t-shirts, promo-stuff, etc. we are trying to picture the logo on a white t-shirt (small on front and large on the back) or a blank white piece of paper. ps! who ever the winner turns out to be in the end we will ask them to tweek it so it will look as perfect as it can get.

the contest during now about 2 months, and it is not over. you need 5 weeks to release the fucking pictures on the contest site. and you dont ansfer the questions in
your forum. i am not the only one, who have problems whit this things. read all the sites of this post and you will see!

i am realy happy! now i know that i am not one of your candidates! now i dont need to visit your forum every day and waiting for a fucking ansfer!

xbmc logo competition over

first of all we like to apologize to all people who entered the contest for the delay we took in deciding a winner, just know it's very hard to organize such a large team as xbmc/xbmp have become and on top of that the contenders where all excellent so very hard to choose from. know that what we where looking for was a logo that's eye-catching, memorable and easily identifiable using as small a 'footprint' as possible, remembering that it's the logo that matters, not background colour or how it would looks in a xbmc-skin as the logo will primary be our website, official t-shirts, promo-stuff, etc. i won't drag it on any longer, the winner of the xbmc/xbmp official logo competition is tamper (http://www.xboxmediaplayer.de/cgi-bin/forums/ikonboard.pl?act=profile;code=03;mid=116-1076029908) with his 31a (http://www.xboxmediacenter.com/logocontest/31a-michael(at)bigtrak.com.png) entry, now we will ask tamper (http://www.xboxmediaplayer.de/cgi-bin/forums/ikonboard.pl?act=profile;code=03;mid=116-1076029908) to tweak to perfect his entry as xbmc official logo(s), and in exchange he will receive an xenuim modchip with lcd-display, (courtesy on team-ozxodus (http://www.ozxodus.com)).

thanks to everyone on the xbmc team, not just for considering my entry, but for giving us all such a great piece of free software. i've been a fan of xbmc since the project was first unveiled, so i'm honoured to play some part in shaping its future.

with any luck we can shape xbox media center media center into an even more recognisable brand within the xbox community.

and while i'm on my podium, i'm supporting the call for more comprehensive thumbnail support and better dvd playback. *:)

but you all, are imposible creatures. i still wondering how can you develop a software like xbmp or xbmc. that is a real wonder.

the contest during now about 2 months, and it is not over. you need 5 weeks to release the fucking pictures on the contest site. and you dont ansfer the questions in
your forum. i am not the only one, who have problems whit this things. read all the sites of this post and you will see!

xbmc is a work of genius and i totally love it. one thing that's been bugging me is the logo. it's "xbmc media center". so the "xb" stands for xbox and the "mc" stand for media center. okay, cool. so why after this is there "media center". surely, that means the whole thing now reads...
"xbox media center media center".

it's not a big deal, just bugs me.

think outside the box for a while - to some people 'xbmc' alone doesn't mean too much. labelling it media center makes its purpose obvious to the casual viewer.

the function of the logo (of any logo for that matter) is to communicate a product to a wider audience. if you're already sold on xbmc, you've nothing to worry about!

now if it said:

xbox media center
then the logo would not bother me as much. just having the "media center" throws it off.

tell him to shrink the text and add xbox in front of the media center.

this will decrese the "media center" text so it does not stand out as much, at the same time, it will serve to spell out the acronym for those who are completely clueless.
