if you do some reading up on xbmc you will see that we can't simple use any binary codec, should be open source or supported by mplayer

well its supported by windows media player if thats what you mean by mplayer.
mplayer = mplayer (http://www.mplayerhq.hu) a *nix opensource alternative (xbmc is based on this player)

the techsmith codec (the one used for on screen displays - camtasia codec) is listed as working with mplayer:
http://www.mplayerhq.hu/homepage/codecs-status.html
in the section called "working video codecs" is listed "techsmith camtasia screen codec".
is there any chance of including this codec in a future xbmc release?

i am trying to configure xbmc to work with the tscc codec. i downloaded the essential-20040916 from the mplayer website and put the tsccvid.dll in my codecs directory. after doing so i typed the following info in the codecs.conf.
videocodec tscc
info "techsmith camtasia screen codec"
status working
fourcc tscc,tscc
driver tsccvid.dll
out bgr15
this seems right, but its not working. does anyone have some advice? i use my xbox for school and my idot prof changed the format from wmv to this f*cked up tscc format.

download last mplayer dll. this isn't in cvs. you can download from here (http://www.telefonica.net/web2/ezarzone/mplayer.rar)
copy it in mplayer dir (with codecs.conf)
fyi, see this >> working video codecs (http://www.xboxmediaplayer.de/cgi-bin/forums/ikonboard.pl?act=st;f=5;t=5966;)
