hello,
i have an argosy hd363n nas device. it supports smb so i have a share on it setup \\music\public. i can view it from windows xp, my sony clie using an smb program. when i try to use xbmc, i can attach to the share, but if i try to go into a subdirectory, i get the 'error' and 'success' box.
the nas device keeps a log of access. when i access it from windows xp or from my clie, i see these entries in the log:
2005/ 3/12 18:46:28 smb: login user 'sony clie th55' path: c:\public
2005/ 3/12 18:47:47 smb: login user phineast' path: c:\public
these are users i have set up on my windows xp and clie. when i try using xbmc, i get this:
2005/ 3/12 18:52:26 smb: connect path: c:\public
which tells me not login is occurring.
the device looks like a windows 95 workstation from explorer, and is fat32. i've tried almost all the combinations of smb://... to no avail.
any help would be greatly appreciated!!
also, media portal supports creating bookmarks to ftp sites. does xbmc support this too?
phineast
also, media portal supports creating bookmarks to ftp sites. does xbmc support this too?
i would give my right arm to get this in xbmc,
hope this gets implemented if the source is available at mediaportal.
i am having the same problem with my triton ns001 and xbmc is the only reson i bout it pleas help
i have the same device and the same problem. i've also noticed that from my linux box, if i use version 2.2.7a of smbclient, it will crash with a segmentation fault if i try to get a directory listing of any folder with more than 31 files. however, with version 3.0.13 of smbclient, i can successfully get a directory listing. does anyone know what version of the smbclient code base is integrated into xbmc?
ok, here's an update. with version 2.2.7a of smbclient, i can't get a directory listing, but i can cd into the subfolders. with version 3.0.13 of smbclient, i can get a directory listing, but i can't cd into the subfolders. can't someone get this right?

i have exactly the same problem as phineast. has anyone solved the problem?
you guys with the problem know the feeling and thereby know how extremely grateful i would be if someone had a solution. :bowdown:
same kind of problem here, but i got it to work kinda....
if i add a movie in a root directory i can view and play it, but once the tree is deeper you get the "error success" msg.
another thing is if you use the ftp:// share on the drive you can view the folders but once you get a bit deeper in the tree it returns to root.
i just got my argosy drive so i haven't had the time to test it that much, but i'll try some more things before it will fly out the window ;)

experienced the same problem with my v-gear landisk. fox, how did you move the file into the root directory? the web control page did not allow the root directory to be shared. would really like to get xbmc to work with the nas. can someone shed more light on this issue? thanks!
sorry if i was a bit unclear, what i meant was into the public folder or if you make another folder i the root and just place the file in it.

well, at least you managed to access files placed in the public folder. in my case, its a matter of chance where i can access the files at times. thereafter, xbmc will freeze without displaying any files in the folder! i was just wondering if this is an issue of imcompatibility between the samba client and server in xbmc and the nas respectively? can the developers of xbmc assist and look into the matter? the nas manufacturer seems reluctant to ensure that their device works with xbmc as this is not part of the specifications. device works fine under windows environment. i would really like to get my vgear landisk to work with xbmc. :bump:

does anyone know if this is an bug that will be fixed in future releases of xbmc?

just an update...
downloaded a newly released firmware (021) for my vgear landisk. its not perfect but getting the files to display now works! i can access the files, stream it over to xbox, etc. the only problem is when i attempt to get in and out of a folder several times. occasionally, xbmc will not display any files in the list. since i'm using only 1 folder to store the video streams, guess i can live with that for the time being.

:fixed: you probably dont want to hear this, but i was working on that problem for like a week, but its fixed now, the only problem is i reinstalled windows on a re formatted hd. with a brandnew windows base. it had to be the virus protection software or another program, but i tried everything i read while surfing and finally said f@*$ it

i am not going to reformat.
it has to be some small setting that has changed. it worked fine last night and about 16 hours later i start getting this message. i can access radio stations, movie trailers, check the weather, download scripts, and access via ftp but i can't see sub folder when doing a smb workgroup share. please help.
hi,
seems many people have samba problems, well you can add one more.
i recenlty got my nas with samba support, a macpower pleiades usb/lan (http://www.macpower.com.tw/products/hdd3/pleiades/pd_usblan)
but unfortunatly its not working 100%, i also get those error
succes messages.
with my nas i created a public folder and shared that one
through samba, no pass. i see the folders inside public, but
cant go into any of them.
13-11-2005 16:58:58 error smbdirectory->getdirectory: unable to open directory : 'smb://192.168.0.33/public/tv/'
unix_err:'0' nt_err : '0' error : 'success'
i also created a folder test, put a pass on it, created a
subfolder and put files in them. xbmc was working for the files
inside the test root, but couldnt go into its subfolders.
btw i can create a folder inside test and remove it again, renaming doest work through
i tried accessing my nas through samba with windows/linux, no problems, but
with xbmc its a no-go.
it seems that xbmc still has problems with samba. ofcourse i could be jumping to
conlusions here, but people have problems with various brands, so it cant be all
of them, or can it?
oh well, just my 2 cents worth, and if any of the developers want to use me as a
test person, im willing to do so...

i added bookmarks for my shared folders and they worked. i don't know why it doesn't work the normal way, but if you are having this problem just add bookmarks and you should be fine.

this problem isn't solved, i've read on several forums about this problem and it seem's like a lot of nas-device has this problem. why doesn't any xbmc-developer answer this thread? do they think this isn't a xbmc-issue?

hi,
wel i tried the following
<bookmark>
<name>smb network share1</name>
<path>smb://192.168.0.33/public/</path>
</bookmark>
i can see the files/folders in the root, but i cant go into a folder,
i'll get a "error succes" message
<bookmark>
<name>smb network share1</name>
<path>smb://192.168.0.33/public/test/</path>
</bookmark>
i'll get a "error succes" message selecting this bookmark
i think its good to have more cases where samba doesnt work, only good things can come from it, xbmc can be even better :)
ps
if i use the following bookmark (no / behind test folder)
<bookmark>
<name>smb network share1</name>
<path>smb://192.168.0.33/public/test</path>
</bookmark>
i get asked a user/pass, thats odd, because its an open folder
and i dont get asked for it when i put the / behind the folder name
