my cds are written with both rock ridge and joliet iso9660 extensions. xbmc seems to use the joliet names which cut off after about 40 characters leaving affected files with no extension, and so these can't be played.
an option to figure out what a file is, by what it contains would be much more useful and sensible than relying on a filename extension.
