Music playlist: highlight current playing song

often as not, i will throw my whole music directory in a playlist and set it to shuffle. when a song comes on that i don't recognize, i would like to be able to just glance at the list of songs and see the current track highlighted.

for short playlists, this works well - the song does get highlighted. for longer ones, the problem is that the playlist does not scroll down to the song that is currently playing. so i guess it is highlighted, but it's 20 pages down.

would this be a difficult change to make? it seems minor from my perspective, but i know how these things can be...

the problem, ofcourse, is that it's got to be intelligent. there's no way a user would want it to suddenly jump half way down a long list if they have been recently browsing it.

this is the sort of thing that a new dev might want to work on though.

fwiw, the main reason i thought about it is because that's how itunes works on my pc. when the song changes, the playlist follows it just as i've described.

i could see how this could be annoying in some situations though, so maybe having it be configurable would be a good idea.

i wish i knew how to dive in and try to do it myself; i'd really like to be able to help the cause.
